Wow very interesting! They should make a movie about this story. It was very intriguing.
Give me 16m and I will do 5 years
5 years of Bubba? Enjoy.
Thats why u spend some of that 16m u buried in another state on 5 other bubbas to protect u until u get out!
Seems like they were very smart kids but unfortunately they used their talents to commit crimes. They could have made good money the legal way; maybe as security consultants or programmers. But that's all down the drain now. I'm sure that once the ring leader gets out of jail he'll be back to doing the same thing.
Funny - when I read it, I was thinking more along the lines of "NOTvery smart".
Well smart in the sense of technology but very dumb in what they did.
There is a difference between intelligent and smart.
Giving credit where credit is due, these guys were extremely intelligent in what they concocted. The level of technical know-how it took to create this enterprise is not something your average computer geek is going to come up with.
They just weren't very smart in concocting the scheme in the first place.
With what these guys know, and the fame (of infamy) they now have, I wouldn't be surprised that, after they do their time, they don't get some serious offers from some major internet security firms.
Karma may be a bitch, but it also gets a little weird sometimes...
hahahaha does know one here seriously not remember Gh0st? He use to be an active member here about 2 years ago.
They didn't get jailed for running the forum, they actually got jailed for all the direct CC fraud they did and for selling stolen cards.
The forum was just a sideline but I'm sure it didn't help their chances with the judge.
I remember gh0st from here and a few other forums. Was one of these guys him ?
exactly, the forum is subjective in the court of law, however the cc's is just against the law period. That why u see all these networks on TV that have this disclaimer "The views and opinions expressed do not represent the views of such and such network, so they could talk and post whatever they wanted to in the forum, but when u get down to the cc's welp things can pop off.
I remember gh0st too he used to say he had cracked the craigslist phone verification system and posted cryptic messages about how it was done lol.
The wide-scale nature of the forum just amplified the level of culpability of the guys involved in the scheme. Had they merely been caught with the credit card...and never said a word or had their laptops seized...they are likely looking at probation and possibly a deferred sentence based on their age. Their involvement with the network might have never even been discovered without that computer.
Instead, with the evidence on their laptops, etc...the operation was so large that they got completely hammered. In America, they would have likely been tried under a Rico statute and been doing a lot more time unless they got a plea deal.
Gh0st! been doing same here! www (dot) blackhatworld (dot) com/blackhat-seo/shit-list/78297-my-account-here-hacked-since-4-26-09-a.html
Reminds me of my youth
Smart kids. Too bad they used their cleverness to create the opposite of facebook, CrimeBook.
I don't understand why would someone choose to be bad and do bad things in the first place. Life is too short for being bad.
Anyway, i hope that is going to be a lesson for them and for us as well.
all the best.
these dopes seem to think they're living in a comic book. if you want to stay out of trouble, then don't do things that draw attention to yourself.
i'm surprised they didn't have brightly colored costumes.
