I have been using Teamviewer free edition in my VPS with Windows Server 2008 all these years without any problem. I have two Windows VPSes one with Windows 8 (where Teamviewer works flawlessly) and another with Windows Server 2008. In the latter one, my VPS provider transferred my box to a new location. I installed TeamViewer in the new VPS installation a few weeks ago but it is now showing trial ended error and not connecting anymore. I realized that there is no personal use option nowadays in the recent versions of teamviewer (I used to find and use that in the past in my earlier VPSes) while installing in a server environment. So, that is the reason why this trial version got installed by mistake.

It is a budget VPS and I use only one tool in the box. I use TeamViewer just once every couple of days or so for transferring the reports of the tool to my local machine and then to my main VPS for further work. I am not going to purchase a commercial license for probably less than half an hour of work every month.

I tried reinstalling, removing registry keys, applying fixes etc. but none of them are working and the trial ended message can be seen every time. Even installing archaic versions of teamviewer is not fixing it anymore. I am seriously pissed off now. I need some other alternative for file transfer. I used RDP for file transfer for the first time today but it takes ages and I am also concerned a bit about security. So, I need some good free alternative to Teamviewer that works for file transfer in server environment.

Does anybody know of any such tool for file transfer without the need to pay out for a commercial license? I heard about Ammy Admin but it is also mentioned as free for non-commercial use. So, does it also force commercial usage license on servers like Teamviewer? Any other suggestions especially from Windows users?

Hello, maybe I dont understood the question or Im looking too simple into this but I have 5 VPS servers and I dont use any file transfer program on them. Like I want to move file from my desktop to one VPS, I take that file do CTRL+C and CTRL+V on the Remote Desktop VPS session. If I want to trasnfer files between 2 VPS I transfer it to my desktop then to another VPS and I dont know, Ive transfered 5GB and bigger files and everything works for me and Im not sure why do you need some file transfer programs when its so simple everything here..

I get your point. But as I mentioned, I only get the reports of several days work by logging in once every 2-3 days. Yes, it is text output but the lines of texts run into millions due to which clipboard copy paste does not work. If there are more than 10K lines or so, Clipboard copy paste outputs blank if it is from VPS to home/anther computer. So, need something else to transfer data if possible without the process of upload/download etc. as in file sharing websites etc.

I also route the data through my local computer when transferring from one VPS to another. But what do you use to transfer the files from the VPS to your computer?

I am now thinking of using RDP again for file transfer. It takes a lot of time for transferring even a couple of 5MB files for example and does a few checks it seems before transferring the files. But I transfer once in every couple of days and so, I would perhaps need to bear with it for the time being before I find a better solution. There is an option in RDP to share external removal drives (such as an USB drive) and I would probably use that for security point of view. It would perhaps be still better than going through the whole process of uploading/downloading through file sharing or Google drive.

I am not looking for some login based process. Dropbox might be an option though through the desktop software. So, would need to check it out. But the uploading downloading process would still be there which is removed by Teamviewer where it gets done almost instantaneously.
