Hey people, just wanted to share my thoughts on an idea I'm currently pursuing and get some opinions.

I'm going down the route of targeting many keywords on a generic domain. Each page on my website will provide plenty of value to the visitor, to combat the recent google panda update which is targeting and lowering the rankings of pages which provide little value to the user.

As I believe it to be key these days, my site provides plenty of value to the visitor. Besides the content itself... there is lots of visitor interaction and stimulation on each page, which will hopefully help the site last for a long time.

Each niche has a directory, and each directory has about ten articles utilizing longtail, and related keywords to that directories main niche.

For example here is the pages I create for one niche:

    http://genericdomain.com/dog food/whats the best dog food.php
    http://genericdomain.com/dog food/how is dogfood made.php
    http://genericdomain.com/dog food/where can i buy quality dogfood.php
    http://genericdomain.com/dog food/does my dog like his dogfood.php

I would eventually have hundreds of niches with ten or so related articles in each directory.

    http://genericdomain.com/competitive frisbee/local frisbee tournaments
http://genericdomain.com/how to write chinese/writing chinese classes
    http://genericdomain.com/art school/new york art schools

To me it seems like a good idea, it is essentially a personal article directory without the user submission. So that I can control all content and keep it all as quality as possible.

Will google like that site if I'm targeting a hundred other niches that aren't related to each other?

    Thanks for reading

Hi, in my prespective right now it's difficult to tell what G likes or dislikes, but after panda, sites that agregate many different niches took a tumble (i know that it was mainly because of the low quality content) but even if you have great content it may take more time to rank, compared to a big quality site targeting only one niche. This is only my opinion because i never had a site like that targeting many niches so i'm not really the right person to talk about it.

I'd be interested to hear if you have any success with a strategy like this.

I think its going to be a lot more difficult to rank for lots on unrelated terms, not impossible but will need a lot more work than just ranking a site that is only themed to onc niche.

You can rank like this if your content is segmented into clearly defined categories. Though a site who's categories are related will have a better chance of ranking. So instead of art schools and stuff about dogs, it could be:

    dog food
    types of dogs
    dog training
    dogs going to art school

If those were your categories you'd be better off. If the categories are totally unrelated like dogs and art schools then use separate domains or at least use sub-domains for un-related niches.

Good luck, let us know what you do and how it works out for you.
