Hi guys, I'm relatively new to SEO, and this site is an absolute bloody goldmine of info! I've got a quick question and I'd be really greatful for any feedback.

I've recently been trying out methods of automating my link-building for micro-niche sites. I've had some success (a few top 3 rankings) through manual link building but it's just so tedious.

Is it better to focus on niche-related domains for building tier 1 pages, or does it not make any worthwhile difference? So for example, let's say my site was about "Travel," is it going to benefit me more if I publish a blog (as part of a diverse collection of properties) on "Travelblog" rather than a travel-related article on a Squidoo lens? Or can backlinks be just as powerful from generic domains as long as the content is contextual?

I'd be so grateful for any help on this.

    Thanks,
    Dan.

P.S. I'm talking about this in the context of big link-building tools like SeNUKE and Article Demon.

No worries about looking for specific niches.

If you make a blogger, or wordpress, or tumblr blog about travel, then that IS targeted. Don't worry about whether all the content on the same site is related to your niche, its unnecessary when you can get a blog subdomain all your own and make it about whatever topic you want.

Ah ok, perfect. Cheers for the reply.

I take it the same applies for things like article directories, social networks, wikis etc?

    Yes and no.

Yes ... if an article is on an article directory, and it is targeted, then to answer your question -- yes it is targeted enough.

No, in that some article directories and wikis are low quality and can potentially hurt your site. Don't be hesitant to post to web2.0s on big free blog services. Be hesitant to post links directly to your site from crappy article directories, etc.

    Good Free Blogs

    Good Article Directories

As for lower quality article directories, wikis etc. ... use them for your tier-1 (the blogs you create). Don't link to your main site with lower quality sites, like article directories that accept any spammy article, etc.
