target="blank" and Google?

    I'm wondering if opening links to external sites in a new window (target="blank") gives any penalty since the Google updates of last year. Most of my sites don't currently use it (except on "more info" and "what's this" pages), since my goal was to get them to the chosen page and make them either convert or close the page.

    Just wondering your thoughts on this? Do any of you use lots of 'open link in new window' links on your pages and still rank well for competitive keywords?

    Thanks in Advance!

    This is one of the most insane questions I have seen lately?

    Why Google should give a penalty to that attribute? It makes no sense..

    Yeah. I see no reason what so ever for Google to penalise links based on whether target is the same window or a new window. It's also the first time I've heard someone even asking this.

    If they start doing that then they should not live on this planet anymore, I'm staying.
