I am arguing with a friend, who claims that "Talking about this" is much more important than the actual likes. What is your opinion ?
Which one is better 30k fans with 3k Talking about this or 10k fanpage with 8k Talking about this ?
I think that actual number of fans are more important, cause the post get a chance to be seen by much more people. Am I right ?

This is a great question travelerbg,

The theme of this question is actually very old. It's like asking which is more important, the wheels of a car or its engine. Without one the other is useless and vis versa. We gather followers on social media accounts so that we can show them messaging in the hopes that they will convert at some point or provide some other type of end result. Simply having a huge amount of followers is typically not the end goal. Getting followers engaged with the fan page (i.e. talking about this) is the next step in the process.

So one is not really more important or better than the other because they are both equally important. Who cares if you have 3 million people who could "potentially" see your message. If they aren't engaging with your message, you might as well just have one person like the page.

From my point of view, I would rather have 10,000 likes on a page with 8,000 people engaged with the content that I am sharing then to have 30,000 likes with the same amount engaged. The former scenario means I am reaching my customer base, the latter means most of them could care less about what I have to say.

All that being said, the "talking about this" metric number actually include people that liked the page.

Check out this post about that specific metric,
