    Hi everyone,

I found this interesting infographic and I could not help but wonder how many of those are coming from people that hang out in here. Here is the link to see for yourself:

    Code:
    http://mashable.com/2012/03/10/top-scams/
What was my next thought though was, how thin are the lines of blackhat with fraud, scam etc. Some of the things in the infographic are totaly illegal and could not be considered BH for any reason.

Some others though are some pretty standar tactics that are shared and spread in here. What I wanted to discuss with you is "what exactly is BH, and what is the line between BH and scam/fraud".

so what are you waiting for? Discuss!

BH tends to make money quick off the traffic it drives.... most times aggressively, at other times unethically; Clickjacking, Cookie stuffing. BH do not tend to target the gyped surfer's pocket, but attempt to milk larger entities. So the victims usually are not the visitors with BH; but only serve as a means to an end. There is a sort of stayed guilt here.

But fraud on the other hand is as old as time..... Here the culprit doesn't care who gets hurt. And the main victims are usually the uncanny surfers.

Blackhat has nothing to do with scamming anyone. Most people doing blackhat offer legit products and services. Blackhat is being innovative and creative to take non-traditional routes to success.

Scamming is being deceitful to get someone's money. Totally different, not even on the same level.

It is an interesting topic and I agree a scam is a scam and blackhat is a word in IM that is sometimes pulled out of reference to the topic, you could take the long road or the short road, to improve and test makes the short road worthwhile..

hahaha, the number 1 top scam of all time isn't on the list. Clever of the BBB to come up with this list, since they're the number one scam of all time.

That construction scam is old as time.

Yes "50%" downpayment upfront and then you run out of the state. Nothing new here.

My favourite one is people offering free services on forums, just so they can try and find a profitable niche.

I don't see any new tricks on that site.

However, I do see the usual privacy invaders present to monetize the site though, including doubleclick. Must be a coincidence. ;)
Then again, what do I know.

Edit: I see definite differences between scamming and blackhatting.
    Scamming==robbing people
Blackhatting== making the customer know he wants a product through unconventional ways. There is never any involuntary money exchange though, even if the target is capitalized in other ways.

Screwing Google and Facebook is Blackhat; scamming is not, it's just a con.

Evil is what you percieve it to be. Neccesary evils exist, just as the church does evil to protect good - the government does evil to promote economic prosperity.

The questions remians as always does the end justify the means - Nigerian, American, Japanese,Arab or whatever ?
