That was a long title, ain't it?

We sleep almost 8 hours per day which means 1/3 of our lives are spent sleeping. So if in my age now, I've slept about 8 years of my time.

A scary thought, especially for me. The answer? Polyphasic sleeping!

I'm not going to go into extreme details here but polyphasic sleeping has already been tried and tested by many. The hardest part is when you're starting out but once you get used to it, you can sleep a total of 2 hours per day without any decline in energy and focus.

This is a journey thread that I'll be updating everyday after every full-day cycle.

Here's how it's going to go down:
Every cycle, I would sleep 20 minutes and ONLY 20 minutes.

    These naps will spread out the whole day for 6 instances -- 2am, 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm.

Updates on this thread and another journey thread (IM) will be given every 10pm, letting everyone know the effects of the schedule on me, the quality of focus I have for work, etc.

The goal is to be able to PERFECTLY sleep in these schedules for 30 consecutive days. Another nap can be inserted whenever I feel soooooooo sleepy (like my head's falling on the keyboard already) but only 1 additional nap.

Without further ado... Let's start. It's already 10:53PM my time so nap will be in 3 hours. I have to lie on the bed at least 15minutes before the schedule so I can lull my brain to sleep. Let's do this!

Good luck trying to archieve that but I don't think it's possible 4.5 hours maybe but not 2.I personally gave a shot for polyphasic sleep year ago since my IM life allowed that and get more of your day sounded great.
I started with 6 hours (4.5 hours at night and 1.5 hours side sleep) then later to 3x1.5hours however ended it month after because I really have hard time falling asleep (usually need 20 minutes to fall asleep even or sometimes hours if I'm not tired) so in the and I didn't got enough REM sleep

However if you can fall asleep in minutes it's possible to sleep 4.5 hours without any negative side effects but you need to strictly follow your scheudule

you're going to end up destroying your sleep cycle. 8hrs of sleep is too much the normal adult needs a minimum of 6hrs max 7. Don't try this if you havent been to a doctor, sleep cycles are really tricking business. When i was in college i would sleep for two hours, study for 4 then sleep for a nother two and etc. It was good via productivity but It has taken me years to readjust my sleeping cycle. Don't fuck with your sleeping cycle....

While in the army, I've slept 2 hours, then been 2 hours awake and so on for 12 hours, every other day for 1.5 years straight.
I can tell you this really sucks, gives you no productivity gain at all and focks up your health status. If you really want to reduce sleeping time to the minimum, try sleeping 6 hours per night and stick to that no matter how tired makes you feel.
In time, you'll get used to that regime and that's the most one can afford deprive himself from sleeping.

Why not just upgrade computer hardware, better internet, get software to automate stuff, and hire virtual assistants to increase how much you do instead of making yourself miserable?

Polyphasic sleeping has existed for decades now. Many tried, almost everyone failed.

Look, if you think YOU CAN'T pull it off, I understand why you hate the concept. There's only one way to prove it -- EXPERIMENT. And I'm willing to do that part.

Many will think that it's stupid, that you NEED 8 hours per day or you'll die, or that it's just plainly impossible.

    Some trivia:
    1. The founder of Wordpress is a polyphasic sleeper
    2. The greatest musicians in history were polyphasic sleepers
    3. Studies show that humans only need REM sleep. In a usual 8 hours of sleep, only about 1-2 hours (I don't know the specifics, but hey, you can Google it) are the most crucial while the remainig ones are basically useless.

If I get health problems because of it, GREAT. At least I can tell my kids not to do polyphasic because it's bad. Because I TRIED IT (not bashed a thread about it) and I had health problems.

If I die because of it, GREATER. Then the world will know that polyphasic sleeping can kill you and should not be tried.

But if I'm able to pull it off, I'll have 22 hours of waking time. Imagine the things I'll be able to do. :)

Oh, and thank you for the doubts, thank you for bashing. I'm pretty sure everyone of you tried it before. Was it that bad? Or you imagined it's going to be bad? Your mind playing tricks on you, huh?

Anyway, now I'm more compelled to pull it off. MOTIVATE ME MOOOOOREEEEE!

You know that manic behavior and hallucinations are a part of sleep deprivation, right? Sounds like you're doing well already. Next is the shadow people. At least on meth you can enjoy the high.

There's a guy named Steve Pavlina who was able to do it for, I believe about 90 days, more or less, can't remember. He gave out some tips on how to fall asleep fast (his personal record, as he says, is fall asleep in as little as 30s).

But that was cool. At least you tried it. I have trouble sleeping to so I really need to be on the bed at least 15-20 mins. before the schedule. I'm also going to avoid drinking any caffeinated drinks.

I'm pretty sure that you're one of those people who doesn't believe something CAN be achieved without actually seeing someone do it. I feel sorry for you, man.

By the way you're acting, it looks like you are the one who needs more sleep. Any way, nap time for me.
