I saw the thread about how terrible go daddy is, and I have a domain that is almost up for renewal, is there anyway to get it transfered somewhere else?

i know you can transfer your domain name to other hosting, but as far as the domain being bought from someone else. no, enom is who you buy the actual domain from, just buy your domains at godaddy, and host them on hostgator

Yes, you can transfer domain registration of a site from one registrar to another. It's a bit of a pain but not that big a deal. You make a request and then via email acknowledge you want the transfer. Happens everyday!

Transferring domains is really easy, call go daddy they will take you step by step. Easiest way to do it for a newbie:).

If you used your real info when resgistering you won't be having a serious problem. They may ask you to provide scanned id out of the blue, the rationale being 'making sure you are the real owner and not someone who hacked the owner's email'. They may also stall for tens of days before releasing the domain and / or turn off the privacy during that time.

easy to move a domain but what is so terrible about godaddy as far as a domain registrar? I wouldnt use them for anything else but they seem to be good at that.

I saw a few things saying they werent good but if they are okay for registering then I will keep the same.

I host on hostgato already and have not had any issues yet. A few more months and Ill go to VPS I think

    How about the followng:

Note that the CC payment itself was flawless, as indicated by the fact that they'll be returning the money. The remark about payment method being suspended in order to preserve the integrity of that method is beyond absurd. They seriously expected me to share scans of my ID with some obscure department whose staff may be selling identities right under their noses for all I know. They thought they had some kind of a leverage and snatched the domain a week later.

After a moronic negative response to my polite email to release it I went straight to ICANN and guess what, 5 hours later I was able to register it with another company.

renew at gd if you like.
    BUT
be carefull, very carefull of all the upsells in GD checkout process.
usually click no to everything, then before you pay, check that the amount is
as you expect it to be.

also, remember that you might have privacy option in first year, and thet will charge for that if this is your first renewal of that domain.

other than that, yes gd is ok for reg.
    but no ok for hosting.
