I am running an adwords campaign for a plumbing business, click through rate is good. Ads are very good and keywords intelligently selected. However, the bounce rate is high! I'm pretty sure the issue is the page speed at 13 seconds.

This is a wordpress website using a lot of themeify, what can be done to fix this?

    Home Page:
13 seconds is a looot. Make it 3 seconds, then see how it goes.
One thing you can do is get a proper ssd based dedicated hosting.

Wow that is slow. Have a look at WP Rocket, its one of the best optimisation plugins out there from my testing. Look on some of the speed testing sites like gmetrix as well, look at the suggests made by those sites.

And yes, speed will quite probably be the reason. Here is a fact that Google use in their web page speed optimisation material -
4 in 10 users will leave a webpage if it takes more than 3 seconds to load.

Check out my guide as well - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/guide-how-to-improve-the-speed-of-your-wordpress-website.1039800/

13 seconds is very late, you need to change them to different server and also cache the page. if you cache the page, it will load very soon.

LOL 13 seconds, wow. Firstly turn the ads off, you're wasting money until this is fixed.

Start with images, compress them all. WP smush is good.

Next up remove unnesscessary scripts and CSS from the header. If you have external sources for things like videos or tracking code find alternatives.

You might also want to look at a CDN like cloudflare, this speeds up something like 20% on it's own.

Upgrade to PHP7.3, it's 40% faster than PHP5. WordPress is built in PHP.

Remove any plugins you're not using or could replace with code.

If speeds have a long TTFB you might want to look at other servers/hosting

Themes that run page builders like visual composer are horendous. If you like the way the site looks, ask a developer to make you a new theme that looks identical. Some of these AIO themes are 400mb which is just insanity. It might cost you $1000 but it will be worth it.

Finally you might want to look at caching, you can go with plugins like WP Fastest Cache or WP Rocket, but you might want to forget them and use services like varnish and memcache at the server level instead.

Cache needs time to build and will get faster over time but I have little doubt you can reduce page load time to under 3 seconds on almost any host instantly.

Most of my affiliate sites load in 1.2 seconds on a shared host, with a LOT of content and images. The vanilla theme I use loads in 350ms.

    13 seconds is your issue.

Compress the images, set up w3 cache or wp rocket, and fix any other page speed issues you might have.
