I need something for Wordpress that will let me control access to a secret area for sub affiliates who sign up for various affiliate programs under me. How are you guys doing this? Do you use a paid membership plugin but instead of payment, you go in and manually add people to a special "paid" equivalent group? Or is there a better way to do this?

I want to setup some forums and a few other things that you can only get to if I verify you signed up under me and add you to a group or something.

Further, do you get these people on an email list and upsell them marketing stuff? Does it work or is the return not worth the effort?

edit: Wanted to add I should clarify what I mean by does it work/worth the effort. The whole point is to build an army, ok perhaps a small tactical team, of affiliates who will actually sell stuff/make conversions. I guess what I'm wondering is is it a waste of time to build such a list because the people who matter are wise enough that you won't make anything on the back end, or is it worth it knowing that there are enough idiots who will sign up? :)
