So last (early) summer I was to Italy and it was fantastic. Now I want to do another travel with some family members and I'm most likely going to California, specifically San Diego. I'm sure many of the members here live there I hope I get some tips/advices.

First of all, what I absolutely needed there? Like clothes, items (e.g US adapters)

How's the beach like? Is it warm water there? In Italy it was kind of cold, very few went on swimming..

How much money is needed? I'm not planning on doing a lot of attractions, mainly just chilling around.

What are some good hamburger chains? mcdonalds is crap.

In what areas can bars/nightclubs with age 18+ be found?

What should I definitely not miss? No Disney or Las Vegas, I'm not so affluent.

Can I cross the border to Mexico?

    What about the health insurance?

    etc etc,

    thanks in advance.

I went and lived out in California for a season maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I drove around and checked things out and settled on Santa Cruz, great town. You're like the beach of silicon valley and only 75 miles south of SF on monterey bay. Relaxed people, smoke weed on the sidewalks in the heart of downtown, etc. great music/parties there's a school there UCSC but its still not too huge.

Anyways it was my second favorite place I lived and although I've been here in FL off and on for about 3 years I move around a lot :) As for San Diego its cool too southern CA I didn't like as much but San Diego is different than a lot of southern california.

In-and-out has some pretty good burgers. Carl's Jr. isn't bad either. Sonic is fun. Del Taco has surprisingly decent burgers for a Mexican chain. Fatburger is really good. Smashburger is less fun than Sonic but they usually have beer and wine. It might be a good idea to have a Big Boy burger while you're there before they close or change into something else.

You can actually do Vegas pretty cheap in summer if you have self-discipline.
