I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have for a lightweight, fast responsive WP theme for a membership site that I am working on.

I've tried a few and they are a little bulky and thus slow and I'm no genius when it comes to this sort of thing so if you have any ideas I'd appreciate it.

I don't care if it is a paid or free theme either as I have no issues with paying for a decent theme.

    Thanks!

@Apricot has kind of converted me into using Generate Press + child themes for everything.

If you have the skills, you're not going to get much more light weight while still having decent out of the box features.

Another vote for GeneratePress. Works great, is fast and small, good shit. I usually either go that route or just modify Twenty-Seventeen to fit my liking. For more than just a basic client blog (so client full sites or my own project site) I usually prefer to buy a new license of X, trash what I don't need, and pop in some of the WPMU DEV plugins (SmartCrawl, Hummingbird, Smush Pro mainly), then spend 30 minutes or so optimizing the ever loving shit out of it once I have the site to where I want it to be. Batching tasks and whatnot.
