    Hi,

I'm currently in possession of a wordpress plugin that i created some years ago that have tens of thousands of active installs.

One strategy that I used in the past was to use it to insert linkbacks in the sites that would install it. The problem was that the plugin made more success than I anticipe which endup getting my site penalized by google (it was like more than a million linkbacks in less than a month, no wonder why that hapenned). Even with the penalization the site sticked and it served me well for some years with the company I build through it. After 2 years i sold the company and never touched the plugin anymore.

This was years ago and currently the plugin remains active and I was thinking in reengineer it somehow to make some profit.

So far I considered 3 options:

    1. Embed an adsense box - which i think it's not really a good idea due to the fact that since i can't control the content on the sites that have it installed , would be really easy to get my adsense account banned
    2. Embed a bitcoin miner - don't think it's much better than the idea above, currently hashing difficulty is quite prohibitive even when we talk about thousands of computers doing the work.
    3. Go for whatever niche with high paying keywords and redirect all that old linkback juice (plus with new ones) to this new domain - I could create an algorithm to randomly start pointing the old links to the new link to simulate an organic link growth, so far, this sounds like the least worst idea.

Anyway, that's pretty much it, i'm not really active anymore in the current SEO tactics so any advice would be highly welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to make a list (on your site) and make the plugin chose one of the links in that list? If so then you could be selling backlinks or just spread them out over your websites.

Yes it is, actually i can even randomize each link with different keywords, that's what I did in the first time, got like 4/5 randomized key anchor keywords to point to the domain. Still, i ended creating a really unnatural link building since 99% of the links were pointing to the main root domain (another mistake I did at the time).
