A lot of the newbs ( we all have to start somewhere i know ) are making posts titled: Best way to not get ghosted on CL ... then you go in expecting a method and what you find is somebody asking for the best way to not get ghosted. Great.... I understand that it only took 4 seconds, but when it happens 25 times a day, gets a little annoying ;).

My suggestion is that next to the Title:_____________ there is a check box that is required to be filled before you can write the message. It has Question ( which ads [HLP] to the beginning of the title auto ) , Method [Mthd] , Request [Req] Etc.

Depending on the subforum different check boxes would be required ( such as downloads could be just [Get] and [Req] ).

I think this would REALLY help unclutter the forums and make it a lot more efficent.

I was thinking the same thing actually.
And it happens alot more than 25 times a day it seems. Then you forget about it and when you're searching through old threads, many of the results are these threads.

I think thats a great idea actually. It might not so much "unclutter" the forum, but it will indeed make it easier to sort through everything.

Hopefully we can get enough activity on this thread that it will actually happen :)

I reccommend you make a poll and probably if there is a huge yes to no ratio it can be implemented

Reducing the amount of clutter is obviously a good idea, but the approach to the solution must be done with diligence. You see, if your solution were to go into effect it wouldn't reduce the clutter, but rather organize it. The posters would still have the same opportunity to make multiple threads about like topics. Also, how many times a day do you see posts placed into the wrong sections of the forum itself? There's too many variables for posters to choose from to make it an efficient solution.

In order to reduce the clutter you could place into effect a solution similar to digg, where the poster is shown similar articles (or in this case posts) that are alike to what they're posting. Then make them verify that their question is unique from the others. Still, I'd imagine that would be a very intense query to constantly run on the server.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree it's annoying sometimes to sort through posts misplaced and repeated throughout the forums. But users need to learn how use the search function plain and simple. It's there, and works well enough, so let's learn to use the functions built in before we mod the entire site.

Very valid points. Maybe my suggestion would be better for de-cluttering the home page where all the updated threads are. As for organizing and de-cluttering each section it may be a more daunting task. Time to brainstorm ;)
