Check it out.. Shawn Hogan from DP is getting pwned.
Old news, several posts here already.
old news, was already posted
thats what happens when you become greedy,
you know why they got caught?
Its because they probably had so many accounts, going crazy stuffing the sh*t out of people, ebay was paying them thousands and thousands of dollars, they probably stuck out like a sore thumb saying "hey ebay, look at me, im fucking you over and your paying me" So eBay investigates and BAM there they go, being sued.
They will probably loose ALOT more then they EVER made on eBay, So for all you cookie stuffers out there, if there is one thing to learn from all this is that don't be greedy play it smart and blend in with the community.
That being said, good luck.
Apologies for me being a tool, then.
No talk of cookie stuffing on non cookie stuffing threads!!!
This is the first I heard of this, but I am new. >_< sucks to be them though.
I wonder how much they were sued for.
This teaches you to draw a fine line between bein smart vs bein greedy. Never overdo it.
ownage BHW is better!!
lol, how much they were sued for ?
Ebay just wanted to get everybody's attention by bringing down a very popular webmaster forum owner so that everybody will be too scared to cookie stuff .. A nice publicity stunt
Lots of people get banned on EPN .. but it's Shawn that gets sued
he must have made a ton of money to be getting sued.
This whole thread is about cookie stuffing IMHO
Apparently it wans't as much as you'd think..I google'd him and the first thing I found was that in 2006, he was being sued for downloading a film illegally for 30k lol, poor guy but he seems to invite it onto himself.
I reckon over 100k he'll be sued for, they want treble what they should get including punitive damages so it could be a bad day for Shaun & Co.
I wonder how exactly anyone could prove cookie-stuffing? I mean, even if they have a copy of your page source filled with iframes to affiliate urls, that doesn't prove anything (a page's source is just a text file, it could be made up). As far as referrers are concerned, you could say that you had legitimate affiliate links on those pages which have since been removed. Even if they tried to argue the 100% CTR thing you could just say you were using text links (i.e. no impressions recorded).
I agree. I'm sure they have better grounds than this to go on, and I doubt they were using Iframes, but I hear even some of the best scripts are very, very hard to notice especially if the ref is blank
I guess you could definitely have a good plan if anything did happen because you're right about the .txt file, but I'm guessing they have stronger evidence.
haha...thats funny...if i was sued for downloading movies, i would've been a pauper by now
Lol same..It seems they just want to target the high profilers to scare the small fish. But still I'd love to see Hogan and Co. have something sexy planned for court, he seems like a pretty smart guy so i'm sure he'll have something.
lol I Was Thinking Of Stuffing C**kies But Now I Will Think Again. Twice
btw cookies stuffing section does notshow up anyhere
where is it?
