So recently I had a blogger blog of mine reach the top of Google, it varied from day to day in terms of certain keywords moving up or down small amounts, but all the keywords I aimed for were on the first page somewhere I think. A couple days ago this biggest of these keywords hit number 1 even, I was so exited. Well them tonight I check keywords again just a few hours after last checking them, and basically every keyword has dropped several pages down on Google, and I don't know why?

This is a new blog, and it started getting backlinks in late October, so might this be just a random dance, or does this not sound good for me? I should note that I have other blogger blogs that I did this same backlink strategy on that are the same age or a lot older and are still ranking in their normal position, so if this one really drops permanently that would be really odd.

If you are not sure whether it's a case of Google Dance or search engine penalty, you need to slow down on your SEO efforts until you figure that out.

First, check on the quality of backlinks you got for your blog.

Do they all come from relevant, authoritative, non-spammy websites (you may use free http://webmeup.com/tools/backlinks.html to research that)? Did you purchase those links or got them in a natural way? Analyze each and every factor that could be risky and could potentially damage your blog reputation.

Second, check whether this drop coincides with the http://mozcast.com/. If you click on the link, you will see that there was some turbulence on Google a couple of days ago.

And then you will need to wait. Depending on your market that may take from several days to several weeks. If you do not think you have done anything wrong - just built some links, then you should be fine soon.

However, if your rankings don't get back to their previous positions, you will need to act.

i currently am also having the same issue like you.

main keyword just keep running up and down for the whole week, vary from page 2 and 3. not it is sitting in page 2.

I think it is just a google dance.

If you check my previously posted threads you'll see that I posted one like this before. I figured out it's not a "dance". For me, some backlinks got reaaaaally devalued and I had to disavow them and now I'm back up again. Maybe a site you were using for backlinks became spammy or something, check that out.

You're still in the Google dance phase. Be patient for roughly a week and you should see things settle and at which time you'll have a good idea as to where you're ranking.

I've seen this happen a lot, and if its over a month since you made the site then this may not be a dance, but you should give it a few days to make sure.

I built these backlinks myself. There certainly is a little bit of spam in my backlinks, but nothing more than I have ever done before, and like I said I have used this same strategy on many other sites including blogger blogs which are all ranking just fine.

As far as negative SEO, I thought about that initially, but it looks like I have the same amount of backlinks I had before so I don't think that is it. This drop happened last night, after it had been sitting at number 1 for a couple of keywords, and somewhere in the top 8 for all the rest.

I just double checked, I created this blog on October 20th btw

The whole backlink disavow thing is new to me, how exactly do I go about doing that ?

I see that the http://mozcast.com/ site shows a decent amount of Google turbulence yesterday, but again all my other blog/sites with the exact backlinks/strategy are all doing fine, some even better than before, so could it be from a algo update?

i just tried looking at this blog on the WebMeUp backlink tool, but I keep getting this message when I try to search " Links couldn't be found for the specified site. Please make sure you've entered the URL correctly."
