So, this story is a little weird!
Last month I started building backlinks for my blog which is more than 3 yo. I used a mix between angela backlinks, comment posting and article submissions. My miche is technology (windows related)

The keywords I was targeting, according to Google keywords had great traffic varying from 33.000 to 135.000.
Well, after one month my keywords went from nowhere to page 1, slot 4 and 5...I said to myself "WOW! Great job!!!"
but guess what? I am not getting any result, any increse of traffic, My visits, since summer is approaching, like every year is declining during this period of the year.
I mean, what is happening? why i dont get any surge of trafic despite the great result i got?

    thanks

hello and thanks for your reply. Yes, of course I did it! I did everything to exclude any mistake on my side but still no traffic. Today my major keyword, the one which sould send me 135.000 traffic was page 1 slot 4 (page 1 out of 34,700,000)

    I am relly clueless... :(

it could be the keyword isn't as great as it looks... Dunno how you have been doing keyword research or what tool you are using or what you are using such as phrase match, exact match etc but google keyword tool is way off. You can find keywords getting thousands of apparent searches a month and when you run an adwords campaign they only get a few impressions. It could be a combination of the fact the keyword is not as great as it looks and also the difference between 1st and 4th on google is a shitload of traffic.

Sometimes the tool does not show the correct numbers. I have one site which should be getting insane traffic according to the tool but it gets zip.
Cross check with Google trends, if Google trends shows no traffic then you have a duff keyword and need to move on. Check on google trends where most of the traffic comes from, e.g. some terms get most of their traffic from India and if you are targeting google.com you are going to be fresh out of luck.

Also check the keyword via scroogle.org just to see you are ranking in the position you think you are.

thanks guy but the more you add comments to my thread the more i get mad! :)
I checked on scroogle.org and my positions are even higher!!!
I checked Google trends and yes, there is traffic on those keywords.

On Scroggle I am position 4 for all my keywords! this is sending me nuts! :)

you can check with webmaster tools how many impressions your site is getting, i mean, how many times it's showing up there in the results and for what keywords

there can be many reasons, starting from the fact that google keywords external tool is not very accurated ..... or maybe you ranking better only on some locations (i tried with proxies all around US some of my sites and not all of them give me the same results)

in any case webmaster tools is a good place to start digging

if you want pm me ur site and keyword and i can check ur ranking for some different cities

You can try creating a PPC campaign to see if the keyword is getting impressions. Just point it to any random site/your own site and make the ad boring so that it won't get clicks.

Make sure that the keyword is in enclosed in brackets when adding it into the campaign (exact match).

Let the ad run for 24 hours then multiply the impressions by 30 to get the estimated monthly search

Look I dont know what to think anymore. Google tells me that it should get a lot of visitors and even Market Samurai is telling me the same thing.
Now my blog is ranking first page, slot 4 but ...NO traffic! Is it possible that nobody is looking for that keyword while Google tells me it should get 33.000 visitors?

I mean...we are not talking about of getting 1000 visitors instead of 33.000
I am talking about of getting zero visitors intstead of 33.000
Is it possible that Google and Market Samurai are so wrong??????

Also, I should also see a general improving in the SERP for all my web pages (in fact i am targeting the home page) but instead...no improvement!

    where is my mistake???

It probably only has some relevance but what is your description text in the google result? Is it any good? Enough to make people want to click your ad?

weird, how are you tracking your traffic? make sure your tracking is in place AND correct! say you use statcounter make sure your code is correct and in the right place. I cant see anyone being in #4 position and not getting traffic,,, only other thing is you may have picked a bad keyword! good luck!

Google's keyword results are woefully inaccurate. I ranked a youtube video slot 1 on the first page for Amazon product keyword which gets (according to Google) 18000 searches per month.

I got excited thinking my view count would go through the roof. Today, 5 months on I've only received 300+ views. And video is still slot 1.

    Go figure...

Keep working at it though, if you managed to rank so well, you've got a decent system. Now you can target any keyword you want.

    Kudos to you :)

I am having the same exact thing now. I am ranked 5th on 1st page for 4kk search phrase. But google is sending me ~9 people per day. I have checked my ranking via google api (my project: backlinklab.com , created for these purposes exactly) , so it should be browser-country-language independent. I am also tracking this via g-analytics, which is pretty accurate.
Today I have changed my meta-description , let's see how it affects the click-through rate. Meanwhile , I just keep building backlinks, and hoping to get to 1st spot :)
