Thank you for very detailed answer to all my questions! I see one of the main part of overall sucess here is doing proper job while searching for keywords. That will be main
challenge and I'm very happy to start working on it and learn more. For the rest (website, content, data analysis and some additional marketing apart from SEO) I'm feeling pretty confident. Well, if I ever open my jurney, you can be sure that you inspired me to do it.

The only thing about the replies that I would not fully agree with you is remarketing ads. Maybe it depends on the product but I have feeling that remarketing would work good especially on high price items. It's simply because if the item is expensive the customer would usually take his time before he end up buying it. Remarketing really helps customer to remind him about your website. It's very visible for me in my daily job where booking process (I'm in real estate) it's pretty long for average user. I see how remarketing helps them to get back on the website from the add and make the reservation. Even if I think about myself - every time I'm buying some items like PC, phone or other devices usually it takes me few days to analyse everything. I'm reading different reviews, jumping from one website to another. It never happend that I bought for. ex new smartphone the same day where I decided I need one.

So overall I think remarketing should really help with more expensive items. But of course it depends how users on our website are behaving. Anyway, that's the thing that I will for sure test when I have website with traffic and products. Long way ahead but I'm excited :) Now it's time for me to take some action and start having fun with keyword research!

As long as it is in your website and mobile app list, it should be fine.

How will you create the vids?

I thought of this same thing for my affiliate sites, create simple videos with pics and overlaid text from the article add some cool transitions and done

    Update

Back with another update, I got a fair bit of work done over the last few days.

Remember that final expired domain I said I wanted? I didn't get it, and I'm quite glad I didn't. I wanted it since it was ok for the niche I planned to go in to but since it was so powerful the bidding was crazy. I... actually bid 4k.

I'm so glad I didn't win as it would hurt to pay 4k for a domain no matter how powerful it is. Since you never know if it will rank, I'd much rather spend that on content for my current projects or build brand new sites.

    Anyways, to the updates.

    Scaling to $10k Project

To kick start the building process, I needed to finish the base research and come up with writing guides for my future content to give to writers. I've done that and we're ready to speed up progress of building these sites. I'm anxious everyday to not be making any $$$.

Project 1 - First Expired Domain

    Site Code: 《GEE》 Expired Domain
    Domain Age: 5 Years
    Site Structure Progress: 「80%」
    Content Progress: 「0/400」 Articles
Link Building Progress: 「216/300」 Ref Domains
    Traffic Diversity: 「0/4」 Traffic Sources
    Budget:$1200」of $3500 Spent
    ROI: 「----」

    Site Update:

I'm finished with the content map for this site. So far I'm sitting with 378 article ideas for this site and everything is set up and ready to roll. I just need to go out now and start purchasing content.

Project 4 - Pre-Established Site Bought from Flippa

    Site Code: 《PJS》
    Domain Age: 2 Years
    Site Structure Progress: 「100%」Completed
    Content Progress: 「30 + 20 Pending /400」 Articles
Link Building Progress: 「150/300」 Ref Domains
    Traffic Diversity: 「1/4」 Traffic Sources
    Budget:$2000 + $300 on Articles」of $3000 Spent
    ROI: 「----」

    Site Update

I spent all of yesterday and today finalizing the content map for this site. I ended up with 467 article ideas for it. The product prices for this niche site ranges from $100 - $2000 in the outdoor niche so commissions will be decent.

The only downside I encountered was when I started ordering content. I realized that while some of the keywords had traffic, the items are no longer available on amazon. I'm realizing that products in this niche don't seem to last very long, maybe it's not isolated to this niche and I'll have the same issue in Project 1.

All the same, I've bought twenty(20) 1500 word articles for it today. In the morning, I'll go and order 30 for project 1 and 20 more for this site. And then while waiting for articles to come through I'll fix the issues with this site.

So far, I've migrated it from the previous owners hosting over to WPX hosting which brought page load times from 10s to 2.4s. I'll further go through and remove bloatware and maybe redesign the site.

That's it for now. Off to sleep then back to grinding out some work and will update once I've gotten some more done.

I might have missed it, but could you post where you're buying your content from? I saw you post on a BST but I didn't see an options for 1.5k word articles there.

    Thanks for keeping us updated!

Could I please just ask, for Project 1 you mentioned "So far I'm sitting with 378 article ideas for this site" - what type of articles are these? Are they best/review/comparison type or info as well?

    Many thanks!

    Update

I spent the day going over the articles in Project 1 and looking at how many words I need. TBH, I really hate this niche before and I have no interest in it whatsoever. To make matters worse, I think the commissions aren't great since it might fall under toys, competition is high, plus the articles are technical and I don't know how well content will turn out for it.

But since I've already spent $1k on the domain I'll at least need to build it up to a $500/month site.

The last expired domain I bought has been released today and ready for use. This is the niche that I really loved, with easy competition and easy keywords that target high ticket items. Moreover, it isn't seasonal so I know with this domain (if it ranks) I'll make probably most of my money from in the short term.

    Scaling to $10k Project

To kick start the building process, I needed to finish the base research and come up with writing guides for my future content to give to writers. I've done that and we're ready to speed up progress of building these sites. I'm anxious everyday to not be making any $$$.

Project 1 - First Expired Domain

    Site Code: 《GEE》 Expired Domain
    Domain Age: 5 Years
    Site Structure Progress: 「80%」
    Content Progress: 「0 + 10 Pending /400」 Articles
Link Building Progress: 「216/300」 Ref Domains
    Traffic Diversity: 「0/4」 Traffic Sources
    Budget:$1200 + $150 on Articles」of $3500 Spent
    ROI: 「----」

    Site Update:

I ordered 10 article reviews for this site. I think I'm gonna have to shuffle this site down to priority 3 as competition, keywords, and commission structures aren't so enticing. However, I'll still order at least 30 articles a month for it and drop 1 a day for the next 90 days since that's the recommendation for expired domains.

Project 4 - Pre-Established Site Bought from Flippa

    Site Code: 《PJS》
    Domain Age: 2 Years
    Site Structure Progress: 「100%」Completed
    Content Progress: 「30 + 20 Pending /400」 Articles
Link Building Progress: 「150/300」 Ref Domains
    Traffic Diversity: 「1/4」 Traffic Sources
    Budget:$2000 + $300 on Articles」of $3000 Spent
    ROI: 「----」

    Site Update

This site will move up to being my first priority. It already has some keywords ranking and I should be able to start earning from this one in the shortest time. I've done nothing with it today though but I intent do order 20 more articles for it tomorrow night. Then get to changing themes and such on Sunday.

    Project 6

    Site Code: 《BTB》Final Expired Domain
    Domain Age: 17 Years
    Site Structure Progress: 0%」Completed
    Content Progress: 0/400」 Articles
Link Building Progress: 104/300」 Ref Domains
    Traffic Diversity: 0/4」 Traffic Sources
    Budget:$1567」of $3000 Spent
    ROI: 「----」

This project will become my second focus priority going forward since the niche overall is easier. Article lengths required aren't more than 2k word unlike project 1 where it seems to require lots of 3k word articles to items that don't cost a lot so commissions won't be good.

Overall, I think this project has more potential than project 1 in all aspects. Will start planning content for this site on Monday/Tuesday but I may set the site up tomorrow night.

That's it for the update today.

Well let me give you an example. One high ticket item I used to sell through commission junction has 60 day cookie and they do heavy re marketing. I bring them 200 clicks a month and get 3 sales. To get 200 clicks to the affiliate site you can say that my articles on site brought about 800 - 1500 visitors a month.

If I were to remarket and bring in 1500 visits a month at .30c - .60c per click that's about $500. Now considering that per sale I get a commission of $89-$100. You can see that I'd lose money. However, there are ways to be profitable. I'm not saying it can't be done, but that it just wasn't feasible with my earnings at the time.

I'd probably use slide of the products with a voice over from fiverr but that's long after the sites have started earning and bringing in stable income to outsource this.

I've never posted it publicly in the thread.

All the above. But 80% has buying intent or potential to make money.

It's an outline of the site structure and all the articles categorized in sub niches(siloed) exactly how I want the site in the future. It's pretty much a plan of all the content I'll order in the future. I'm using coggle.io to build them.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your journey!

    I have some questions :

-Can you post an example of the silo mapping you use for your websites? So you don't have a mega menu, just the categories?
-And to find the keywords for your websites, you use a tool like Kwfinder?
-For the title of your articles, you use "review", "best"?

    Thanks!

    Hello @Bloooop
I am follow your journey and I have a question. I would appreciate if you could answer my question :)

Let's say I want to rank for "best widgets", "best gas powered widgets", "best electric widgets" and "best hybrid widgets". Would it be better to write one article that includes all of these keywords or an article for each keyword?

To better explain, here are examples of the 2 options:

Option 1 - One article that includes all keywords:
    • Title/H1: Best Widgets
    • H2: Best Gas-Powered Widgets
    • H2: Best Electric Widgets
    • H2: Best Hybrid Widgets

Option 2 - Multiple articles for each keyword:
    • Article 1 - Title/H1: Best Widgets
    • Article 2 - Title/H1: Best Gas-Powered Widgets
    • Article 3 - Title/H1: Best Electric Widgets
    • Article 4 - Title/H1: Best Hybrid Widgets

If I were to choose option 1, I'm assuming it would be harder to rank for the H2 keywords.

On the other hand, if I were to choose option 2, I might be dealing with keyword cannibalization due to partial matching. For example, the "Best Gas-Powered Widgets" article might rank for "best widgets". Or the "Best Widgets" article might rank for "best gas powered widgets".

So which option would be best?
Thank you very much for giving me your precious time! :D

Sorry, can't resist mentioning this. In this old update you mentioned that for two days you had only 14$ earrnigs. And, in an even older update you complained that you had a nightmare of earrning only 14$.

I assume you never even noticed this :)

Good luck on your journey! With a dedication you have you will succed!

    Update

It's been a long time since I dropped an update. Been doing some background work but I'm making steady and quick progress IMO.

I even built my dream home workstation!

    IMG_20200313_170735_censored (2).jpg

    Freaking insane and loving it!

    Specs:

Samsung CRG9 49 Inch Curved Gaming Monitor - Productivity Beast.
    Ryzen 7 3700x
    32GB GSKILL Trident Neo
    Asus ROG Strix 2080TI
MX Key keyboard and MX Master 3 Mouse
A 60 inch sprayed Sit Stand desk
    And my trusty old couch

With this I feel like my money was well spent and makes coming home from work to go back to work even more exciting. On the topic of money, I feel like it's the best decision I've ever made to sell my site. As with the corona virus spreading so fast I'd be worried with earnings inevitably declining and not having any money for as an emergency fund. I hope you guys are doing ok and make sure you are prepared.

    Site Update

I've gotten back 38 articles for this site, I'm currently editing them and will have them on the site ready to drip feed over the rest of the month. And I've finished changing all the links for this site over the time i've been away. I've also added it to all the webmaster tools to get it indexed there. Once I've added the new content I'm expecting this site to be my ticket back to $1000 a month in the fastest time.

    Nice workstation!

I have a site in the fitness niche and although traffic is down a bit, conversion is actually increasing. I think people probably want to find ways to stay fit if they have to stay indoors, gyms are closed etc.

Sites in other niches though - camping, outdoor sports, travel etc. are seeing a decline for obvious reasons. Definitely think you sold at the right time. Way too much uncertainty and fear around at the moment and for the forseeable future.

Having said that though, there isn't any business I'd rather be in than online right now. Just keep working away and once we come out the other side of this, hopefully business will boom!
