So are you just in a huge niche like tech products or are you in a smaller subniche like smart watches? Just wondering because I focus on the latter and have never been able to scale beyond $1k a month in the smallfish pond. I've considered trying to do an umbrella site but always thought the competition was too tough

That's interesting, as a rookie I've seen plenty of guides where they tell you that ranking for keywords where Amazon is ranking as well is useless. Just last night I had a list of about 5 keywords, each one of them over 3k SV US, $2 CPC, 5k+ GV and the only ones ranking for it were Amazon (in the spots #1,#2,#5+), Walmart, Target and Wayfair, but no blog or affiliate website ranking for them, basically just big retailers with their catalog pages such as "site/product-collection", "site/niche/product-collection" etc.

So, do you think they're really worth a shot? Or there are more in-depth things I have to look for before trying to rank against big retailers?

The domain is broad but I go after multiple small sub-niches of my main niche.

Yes, you can rank for them. You are talking about like a product name without review attached? It's a little hard and might take a while but you need to realize that those large eCommerce sites rank due to relevance. So if you improve the relevance of your page that you want to rank for that keyword you'll rank for it too. You might not hit number 1 but you'll be on 1st page. And if you get some links you might even hit top 3.

I won't swear for anyone else but I have 3 pages in top 3 for keywords that amazon, Walmart, etc dominate.

He already replied several times that he didn't do any link building, other than some niche edit links which he ordered from here... He is focusing in content and not links atm..

I am interested to know how those niche edits worked out for you? How many did you buy and did they have any positive effect?

I am by no means hoping to hit number 1 (or even top 5 for that matter), I just wish to hit the 1st page for now.
That's very encouraging to hear, thank you.

I don't know whether they'll end up being good or bad but for now they've done nothing really. Gotta give it a few more weeks. And I only got 5.

Then for sure go after them. You can hit the front page fairly easy. Just make sure you check out what's ranking. You also need to check page 2 if there are any blogs or niche sites that are stuck there for the same keyword. If their sites are better than yours and they are stuck on page 2 then it's likely you'll be stuck too. However, they may not be targeting the keyword so you still need to do some checks.

By niche edits, I assume you mean editing aged posts from other sites to link to your own? Or a full 301?

Do you think it would have been better or faster to have created a micronicho than a general site like the one you have?

    Editing aged posts.

I don't think it would've been any faster and if it was then the growth potential would've been limited and I would have to build a new site to scale. Each has its pros and cons, the microniche might rank faster but you need to find the right one. With the general site, you have the room to maneuver in sub-niches and expand out and if you select the right sub-niche and keywords you'll rank just as fast as a microniche.

Fave post so far, up to page 9:

I try to sound relatable by addressing the problem in the first 150 words. Then I follow up with why this article is their solution since I've supposedly experienced their pain, did the research, I should know what they need. Which builds trust and interest in what I'm going to recommend to them. I also use bucket brigades every 200 -250 words to keep them attentive. The most important tip is to be relatable and build trust so you don't come across as a simple seller.

Afterwards, I introduce the best XYZ, include a comparison chart ( as simple as possible) then go into independent reviews. I then select the top product and say that it is the one I currently use and highly recommend it. The others are just as great but may have minor cons.

Then I do the same FAQ and guide to buying if they decide to choose alternatives I haven't listed. The key thing here to make sure you stay on topic by using LSI or keywords every 50 words. Some people ignore that and end up with text that Google thinks is unrelatable to the content which drops their "perceived" word count and also decreases a users' dwell time since they also don't think it's relevant. Then I add 1 authority reference, great pictures and a video if possible.

The last factors are proper grammar, recommending instead of selling, bucket brigades to hold attention, and conciseness of paragraphs/sentences.

AND I learned about Bucket Brigades.

I wish this journey was written more as a step-by-step guide. Digging through each post to find answers is rough on my ADHD :)

But I'm grateful none the less...

    Update

I had a pretty long day today. I spent most of the day contemplating which direction to build out content that will have the fastest growth potential. So far I'm considering to tackle a new sub-niche and get 30 articles done for it. I'll still work on the other areas of the site and try to get in about 10 articles for site 2. However, I ordered 10 articles today.

I'll sleep on it and make my decision in the morning.

    Earnings for Yesterday:

    4ac52334e3d0cda92994f93570323582.png

Earnings are steady but I need to effectively get it up to $350 a day as quick as possible. The only way to do this is by writing the right content. This is where I'm stuck. Even though I know I shouldn't be afraid to risk jumping in a new sub-niche I have no authority in I kind of still want to go for it as I see tonnes of potential there. So I might just take the leap and start building out content to that side of my content map.

BTW I'm using coggle to map out my site here's a pic of what coggle looks like:

    workout.png

Maybe it'll come in handy for you if you struggle with organizing stuff and planning silos etc. I'm not affiliated with them but I found them after seeing the one that is available on Mac and coggle is the closest thing to it out there. It's free to use too.

Either way, I'm gonna sleep on how to tackle my next phase of content.

    -----------------------

Thanks for the support :D. I'm glad it's useful in some way to someone out there.

Glad you found some gold from my journey. Bucket brigades can make a world of difference in your writing.

I won't be able to do step by step as I'm focusing on learning and putting in the work. Moreover, I'm not at the stage to teach anything yet as I'm still learning so i can only share my personal experiences. Maybe after I hit the target though.

Thank you! I appreciate your wishes, stick around I'll get it done in a few months.

Can you expand on the 'Small pond Big fish'?

Any tips to make articles more engaging with the users?

Any onpage SEO tips you feel that make the most difference between your articles and your competitors?

Have you noticed any meaningful positive movements since last months niche edits?

    Update

One of the worst things I've experienced is the pain of feeling like you're held hostage at a job due to not having passive income that covers your expenses. Things have happened over this year that has given me said feelings and now it's happening again due to the insecurity of my wife's job. I won't go into details but I haaaaate it!

So I need to quickly scale my earnings up to the point that it exceeds both our salaries combined. I'm only a quarter of the way there and I'm not sure how best to quickly reach that amount per month.

The trouble is that I've been investing in stocks n mutual funds instead of building up an emergency fund. To make matters worse I started allocating money to spend on these projects. So for me, it's like added pressure. I hope everything works out and I get another 3 months to build up my earnings to at least 5k. This is how I'm feeling today.. maybe a year later I'll look back at this update and feel free.

    Earnings for yesterday:

    dc05d9401fae1094096aa24a014106b9.png

Traffic increased a little yesterday. And I sold one high ticket item. If I can double this amount daily then I'd at least be able to jump out of the rat race and start growing exponentially.

What do you guys that are making over $5000 a month do with your money? Are you reinvesting to secure your future or blowing it?

    --------------
    Thanks

All my tips are in the October summary. But it's not plainly written and I can't give it any better than that. As for the niche edits, I haven't seen any negative impacts but I was already on page 1 for most of my keywords so if there is a positive impact it's minimal at this point. I might get more after adding content this month. Maybe...

I can relate to this, i am in a very similar situation myself at the moment.

Looking at it from a bright side, I don´t need to scale/grow a business to this extent. If I can get anywhere near $1,000 or even $500 a month it would be amazing for us. I guess, it´s one of the very few benefits of living in a F*****G country ruled by socialism!
I know you won´t like this but you should start considering buying links! Check @MisterF link building service BST. I haven´t tested it myself nor any other link building service here. But I am sure there must be some quality link building service on this forum.

Another option you have to boost traffic is to start building your social media presence and include some budget for paid advertisements. Particularly, on facebook.

I am 100% sure you will look back at this 1 year from now and you will refer to that as a learning experience.
