As i was reading, I figured why should i spend large amounts of time to learn ALL there is to SEO and buy the software needed and learn the software and go through trail and error when it's probably a Better idea to just hire a freelance SEO expert because

Inexpensive due to exchange rate with U.S. dollars to other currency(hiring non U.S.)
SEO expert can get the job done in a nano fraction of the time because of experience and they already have the tools.

    My questions are,
    what would this cost me?
who to possibly hire or NOT hire?
and I'm REALLY scared of an 'SEO expert' doing some BH things to get my site sandboxed. It's a 'whitehat' type of site that will be around for a long time. Is this a valid concern?

I have a local based site with great content and it's a year old but it isn't on the first page for many keywords. If this SEO Expert is successful, could lead to DOZENS of more clients cuz this is a site that's part of a network of local sites, in various locations, and they all may want to hire also.

ANY INPUT would be greatly appreciated

One reason why you should learn all there is to know about SEO is, Do you know any
other skills that you can walk into walk into a library or internet cafe anywhere in the world and command money
at will with no start up capital?
Having said that unless you check out the credentials of the people you are hiring there is no guarantee they will
not use black hat methods on your site.
I would enquire to businesses that have long standing and are affiliated to SEO best practice associations and reputable
organisations. How much will it cost? How longs a piece of string? All factors considered.

definitely having referrals and respectable SEO background is a good idea.

I do know alot about SEO and what needs to happen, I'm just not THE expert in it and my time is probably better spent with site content and sales.

i wonder what other people have discovered by outsourcing SEO for their site

As Oxonbeef said THERE IS NO guarantee the SEO team will not use Black Hat techniques. To a certain degree having people doing
the SEO services in different country can in fact increase the changes to do it so. Not because the professional is an a**hole,
but because in the back of his head he knows that there is nothing you can do to him if you get problems with your website.

It's a fact. When you outsource anything there is this kind of "tension" if you've never worked with that professional before. It does take some time
to feel more comfortable outsourcing specially when we are talking about our site or our clients sites (our city or country).

My piece of advice for you would be to outsource some linkbuilding with articles and PR releases in the beginning and than you can start
moving to different types of links.
Whatever happens with the articles and Press Releases is hard to imagine would ever "hurt" your website rankings (sandbox or whatever).

Other thing is, you have tons of professionals here that you can check credentials based on reviews. I believe it would be more relaxing
to you to do it knowing that there would be some some support in case something goes "bad."

Get some directories, articles, Press Releases and bookmarking and you will be fine. BUT keep in mind that as the OWNER of your business
you have to know as much as you can about SEO and BH.
So you can outsource the "safe" part and take control of the "risky" one.
