    Home Page:
If I own the domain pizza.com (which I do not), let's say I want to get hits on a page for "Healthy Pizza Recipes".

    I could do:

    Healthy.Pizza.com or Pizza.com/healthy

    Which is a better choice?

What if I 301 healthy.pizza.com -> pizza.com/healthy and build links to the first link there.

    What's the smartest move?

    Ampix0,

I think it makes no difference what so ever whether you use a sub domain or a sub directory. The redirect will provide no added benefit. What will make it rank well is lots of other reputable sites linking to the page, lots of social interaction surrounding that page, good on-site optimization and in general useful content.

    Best,

    Shawn
