Sub-domain or just a page on the site to rank well?

I'm new to site creation and SEO, so I apologize in advance for the noobish questions...

Background: I provide a consumer financing service to small businesses, so that they can generate more business by offering financing to their customers.

Goal: What I want to do is also provide a lead generation web page to each small business I sign up. I don't want to create a new site for each business, but rather a page on a larger site.

I plan to set up a main wordpress site. What I was thinking about was creating a sub-domain or a single page on the site for each small business that signs up, based on their city or business name.

Ex: wefinancefurniture dot com/mayberry (or) mayberry.wefinancefurniture dot com.

My target is smaller towns, with little local competition on google. Based on my keyword research, it shouldn't be too hard to get ranked well for "mayberry furniture" or something along those lines.

In terms of getting a page ranked well with google locally....would it be best to create a sub-domain for each target, or just a page on the site for each target?

    Thanks
