Stupidly obvious question..

If I am following Google Sniper and it says to look for results under 7000 using quotes ("buy this widget"). But when I remove the quotes (nobody uses quotes) there's over 200000 sites. Won't I have to compete against that number?

I never heard of G00gle Sniper, but when you use quotation marks, G00gle gives you only pages which contain your search term exactly how you searched for it (means for example: the same order). You are right, you have to compete against the number without the quotation marks, because of the reason you mentioned. BUT when they haven't got the exact search term in their sites, they obviously don't optimize on it, so if it is not a big site, they won't be hard competitors for this term! I hope, you understand what I tried to say;)

troof. If they aren't authority sites like amazon,yahoo, or someshit you can easily take over that keyword. 7,000 aint that much. Just optimized your page and make linkwheels everyday
 
with quotes will get you sites that say buy this widget

without quotes will get you sites that say

this gadget will work with this widget, so when you buy groceries keep that in mind

I have KW phrases with something like 50-70k+ monthly hits and only 1500-5000 competing sites.
 
This is the first time I have heard of Google Sniper too. Thanks to jackanapes for the link to the tutorial!
 
So, why bother to search the term with quotes if I'm going to have to compete with results without quotes?
