I bought a server from XSserver today. It's the $35 Windows 2003 version.

I just downloaded all the essential updates available for 2003 and turned the security for the web down to Medium (the lowest setting in IE8).

I tried to drag and drop Scrapebox to the server but it wouldn't work... so I downloaded it from my server. Am I doing something wrong? I can't drag and drop? I am logging in with:

    Start -> Run -> mstsc.exe

    So questions:

    1. Should I upgrade IE8 to something else or add any plugins to it? It wanted to add Shockwave but I said no.

    2. Add AVG Free?

    3. Add Malwarebytes but only run on demand?

    4. What can I use to test for upload/download speed?

    5. What tool can I use to tweak the settings?

    6. Is there a way to make a backup image so if something burps I can restore it to how it is now (pristine)?

    7. Is there a way to log into my VPS with a Mac or iPad?

This is so freaking awesome! I wish I knew about VPSs before I bought a cheap computer last year. This thing will pay for itself in no time! :D

Anything else I might be missing?

I am also curious how people set up a fresh Xserver windows VPS box. Please outline what software you install, what you configure, etc.

Are you kidding? you tried a drap and drop from your desktop to your VPS?
Remote connection is to manage your server...

You must have a licence of SB for your VPS or you can buy another licence.

    1. Useless
    2. Useless
    3. Useless
    4. If you want to see your upload/bandwith in real time while doing something with SB, you can put the addon called Bandwidth meter
    5. TCPOptimizer, there is a tutorial on BHW
    6. Xsserver will reinstall your VPS, it's on the package
    7. No

Yeah and how much is your bandwidth? ;)

Xsserver has unmetered bandwidth and it's the only thing you should check after the RAM.

SB use a lot of bandwidth, a lot...
