I have just had a call from a lady claiming to be from windows. She said they had noticed my computer was automatically downloading lots of files from Malaysia and as a result my computer was being slowed down, would soon crash. They had discovered this from the error reports on the emails i was sending out which were being returned.

She asked if i had been getting the error reports they had been sending.

I have had a few error reports but they say recipients server is full

We then lost the phone connection.

Has anybody else ever had this sort of call?
How do i check if my mac is downloading files?
How did they get my landline number when i dont even know it myself?

Apologies if im in the wrong forum

I don't know where to begin with this. The internet can be a bad place for gullible people if you honestly don't know. ;)

You are being trolled probably by someone who wants you to buy some scareware program to clean your "infected" computer or any number of other silly scams. None of what you just said makes any sense from a technical standpoint, and I promise "Windows" does not care enough to personally call you in any circumstance (much less the fact you said you are using a mac?).

Actually it isnt a joke it is all true. And it genuinely did sound like a call centre.

The bit that really freaks me out is she used my home phone number, which i never give out as i always use my hand phone.
she knew my name and by coincidence i have had higher than average email error reports and my computer is on a go slow.
