Noticed a few days ago that something just wasnt right on my PC.

Over the past 2 weeks iv installed CCleaner and its suddenly dissapeared from my hard drive. When i click on the icon the system starts by SEARCHING, cannot find application. So i installed it for the 3rd time and within hours it was completely gone.

Then, i started clicking on various applications on my harddrive.

Xsitepro2 - Refuses to start up
Xhttpheder - Refuses to start up
    Market S. - Same issue
Spybot Search And Destory - Installs but cant run it

So i reboot and try to load SAFE MODE. System refuses to go into safe mode.

After i reboot normally i reinstall Spybot S&D and scan the drive for a virus.

It finds; dropper.4maxiums. According to what this thing does; it corrupts existing applications in the programs directory which need to be reinstalled. Ok so S&D finally removes this nasty. I scan the system with a few other tools and it seems this damn thing is gone.

The problem is, i still cannot re-install any of the above applications. When i click on CCleaner it pops open then closes quickly. I cant install S&D. It just load up and closes quickly. All in all, it has crippled many of my applications and im looking for a solution.

If this thing is no longer on my drive, why cant in use certain applications? Its continues to act as if this trojan is still present.

I used regedit and manually looked for the dropper files but they are not there so S&D must have remove them. Im baffled.

This is the only information i found on this virus

    Code:
    http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=57189

I also installed TuneUp Utilites around the same time. But i dont believe its responsible for corrupting my files or preventing my applications from being opened.

At this point im thinking of doing a restore. Im running XP. What are the suggestions?

Apparently the new updated version of Spybot Search & Destroy and Malwarebytes take care of the problem.

You should have had Spybot installed already.

If the problem continues, then you need to contact tech support that handle specific virus and adware, etc. infections.

    Something like this:

    Code:

I haven't used them, but if you can't fix the problem, then it is good to go with virus experts before having to re-install everything on your computer again.

download and burn the Kaspersky rescue disk (free)

Boot it, update the database, scan the drive, remove the viri.

Install AVAST and use the boot time scan

Then do a full scan from windows

    good luck

Also, consider using the windoze boot disk to replace the MBR on the disk

Try to update your .net framework. Might work.

I would still suggest you to reformat your computer in the near future, as that is the only way to ensure your virus free...

@Nuker: looks like I was beaten.

OP--how much time have you already sunk into this? Nothing beats a clean install, I'll bet you've already spent the time it would have taken you to have a fresh OS right about now...
