while your at it also get decent antivirus and firewall software, i bet you run avg or avira? go and BUY kaspersky internet security, you can go and download it from their site and run it for 30days without a license, start with that, it'll find plenty of crap

It has never affected the running of my Laptop, Ive been using it for 4 years now.

If you only ever do one thing............never use cracked or patched anti virus.

If you must try every download you see, use a virtual machine to keep your operating system clean and safe.

I personally prefer avira over any other anti virus. Do some research and it trumps all others at the moment

errr no no it doesnt, its free, not the best, ontop of that you really need a quality firewall with it, the only thing that has a better firewall than kasp is comodo internet security but... zomg its annoying

I love the concept people have that they have a good AV because they never have
    an infection.
I'd be worried if my AV never found anything.

for a desktop it doesnt matter, for a server i use kaspersky for antivirus for any file uploads (mod_security, pureftp, suhosin in php) and email and then csf for a firewall (google csf firewall)

I have to agree kaspers is my #1 choice well worth the money after the free trial it has protected me thru thick and thin catching bandits and destroying them in front of my eyes.......alot of the free av are viruses themselfs and you really have to be careful what you download on your computer........
