So it appears that a former friend now a competitor is copying every new idea I come up with for my site. For example, I make up a new category in my site and a couple of days later that same category (exact title and similar articles will appear).

If I dont do anything, my comp doesnt do anything. If I do something, comp. follows suit.

Competition is cool because it make us grow smarter but I got tobe honest that I feel like a grade school student nagging (but do realize this is part of reality in any business). But damn it is discouraging to see that every new unique idea and content I spend a lot of time thinking about ends up being taken easily by a former friend and now competitor within a local area.

As for my defense, i will focus and make sure my rankings continue stay on top of my competitor so that visitors to my site will see me first and hope they see me more of an authority. I just fear that my rankings may not last forever.

The comp definitely wants to kill my business but every action my comp does just gives me more fuel for my fire inside but I need to act carefully.

I wonder if anyone has any similar experiences/ solutions you would like to share?

    Thanks for reading.

This is what is universally called competition...

Get used to it and concentrate on your own site and make it Number 1...

OP you are doing the right thing leading from the front with your site

    Keep up the Good Work...

Write 10 articles on one sheet, and file a copyright for it.

When the copyright is granted, drip these out so that he has 5 of them live, then send his hoster a DCMA

Hire a Para-legal to send a threatening letter over copyright infringement.

Then drip feed the other 5 and see if he copies them, if so you will win the suit, so sue for CR infringement.

Once you have the copyright, it is simple.

Put up a website using his name as the domian, tell people to watch the two sites and see how he copies all your content.

Someone will tell him about it.

    8 8 8 8
Or send him a bill for fair market value remember to charge for non exclusive, worldwide distribution. Those rights cost.

If you don't think this will work use a Getty image on your site.

i would make a second site all brand new and rank it up from beginning (chose some domain similar with his), if you think something smart you put it on site 1 , if you think something else you put it on site 2, if you are good at seo you will have rank 1 and rank 2 guaranteed. let him copy, you will have enough visitors to not be worried about him. i do it with my sites and its killing my competitors. on all keywords you find me rank 1 at one site and rank 2 at other site, both sites have same location adress so i get clients from 2 sites and double my money. hope this halped :)

You can't prevent them from copying but you can issue a cease and desiste letter. Do a search and you will find lots of examples. At the same time make sure you use copyscape to record when you publish to prove the content is yours.
