Hei guys, I wanna try something new out. I wanna promote HostGator, with their affiliate program. I saw some older posts about this, but I was just wondering if some of you guys are making some good money from it.

The plan:
I have a friend who really knows how to do cold calling. I will probably make some bots to scrape new/small companies that don't have a website yet from my country. We will offer them a free website, if they buy whatever package at HostGator. I will only give them a free website if they buy the hosting plan for one year (in this way, it's 100% sure that we will get paid from HostGator).

What do you think?

Another question ... did some of you guys got scammed by HG ? Meaning, you got some leads, but they told you the leads are invalid or something like that.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

hostgator are one horrible company to promote, even though am promoting them at the mins via google, I have over 21 sign up this month, only about 8 is valid for payment. Go figure

Gotcha ... do you know another company that doesn't shave that hard ?

Don't get me wrong, if you have a way to promote HG affiliate with free traffic, seo, by all means go for it, but I wouldnt waste time and money promoting it.

I understand. Well, as I said, a friend will do a lot of cold calling, he will get his part. The only investment is time, maybe from 20 calls he will get one client. I just have to work like 1 hour/website. It's like $125/hour, if we get enough leads.

Hosting affiliate business is still a lucrative market: people will never stop to buy hosting packages.

But please, look at the fact: how many companies are promoting Hostgator already? Thousand and thousand sites are promoting HG and no one (read again: no one) could surpass the trust of the company itself, with the result of leaving out the "middle man". If you are looking to promote HG by using a website, IMHO you should re-consider your strategies.

A different approach could be: write a good report (with original content) explaining how to carefully choose an hosting company, the do's and dont's, and why you would go for HostGator while purchasing an hosting account. Add some affiliate links within your report, THEN, promote your ebook. Also, don't limit your choice to HG: you could perhaps add affiliate links for domain registration, or other services like VPS, domain protection, whois privacy, wordpress installation, and so on.

IMHO your chances to make some money would raise.
Hope this helps.

It's against HostGator TOS, so they will not pay. And that applies to most of the large hosting companies.
