I'm currently in a dillema and i don't know whether i should stick with Wordpress or learn CSS and start designing my own unique websites.

The advantages of wordpress are countless.
There are also a lot of advantages to learning web design, but what's scaring me is it might take a long time before i can make professional looking websites.

What did you do and what do you think i should do?

learn css and start using joomla...

joomla uses css to position all the modules - once you know how its very easy to do!

i dont personally use wordpress however i know wordpress is probably good for most basic/smaller websites - however if your looking for bigger more complex sites joomla maybe the answer for you, take a look at the number of extensions that are available for it...

    http://extensions.joomla.org/

either way i think you will find learning css a benefit if you want to get into the nitty gritty of designing your own layouts...

    just my 2 cents...

I remember trying to use Joomla a long time ago.
Didn't really like it because i had no idea how to use it.
I'll try it again tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just did a quick google search, looks great, i'll try it out and i'll update here.

    stick with wordpress!
    is more simple than jomla
then you will easily learn css playing with the themes(templates)
when i started using wordpress i even knew html and now i can modify php plugins and css is piece of cake !
then with a little work you may be able to adjust any template to wordpress...

    have fun!

You don't have to choose between wordpress and web designing. You can design themes for wordpress. Learning CSS is still necessary obviously but you can still use wp or any other cms once you learn the templating system (it's pretty straightforward in wp).

However, coding the CSS&HTML is the easy part of web design/dev. The graphical interface of the website is the hardest part and the most crucial to making professional looking websites.

Whatever you do, for heaven's sake, stay away from artisteer.

I make marketing. But the design is for me also important. Same for photoshop etc.. I guess, that's the problem, why a 24 hours day is simply much too short :D

I need websites because i'm trying to develop domains and quickly sell them.
Good domain names are worth a lot so i'm trying to get mediocre domains , develop them in an original way so it'll be still worth some money.

That's why i don't want to use existing wordpress themes.

learning css and html are one of the corner stones of IM.
besides the more you can do in house, the less you have to pay someone else out of your profits to do it for you

Why don't you learn CSS and HTML and keep using WordPress. I know of multiple times when I needed CSS and HTML when I was using WordPress.

Learn both. I used Joomla CMS and use Artisteer to produce a customized template for my joomla site.

Web Design is a complex subject, it's not like assembly some tags and assign style rules. With the end of HTML4, then the end of XHTML now it's time of HTML5 and CSS3. To know how to optimize client-side code with HTML5 and CSS makes the difference between a fail site (time load over 10 seconds) and the same IM proof site (light, fast, perfectly accesible from all OS and devices).
That's for me IMHO, I am in love with web development.

If you're looking for default looking templates, then i'd say go ahead and use Artisteer.

    Wordpress OR webdesign?

    You should master both

both very valuable and compliment each other.
