Stay away from Hostwinds, they deleted 1 week worth of content!

Well, the problem got solved, I managed to retrieve some of the content that got deleted when the server restarted by using Google cache. Thank you umerjut00 for the tip, it really helped. The guys from hostwinds reponded and stated their apologies for the event and talked in a great way. I would also like to apologise for shaming them, it was a childish act, was just mad as I`ve written over 7 hours on that day and it went poof. Anyway, good thing that all was resolved in the end.

I have been with them since more than a year and nothing of that sort has ever happened to me. Shit can happen sometimes. Can't you simply repost the articles? How long will that take?

And in case if you don't have the articles, take the help of Google Cache.

You also lost some changes made to your design? I don't mean to be offensive but that's completely your fault. Because one should do a backup before and after every design change made to the website. I don't think there's anything else left which can be lost.
 
It took me around 3 hours to get the info for every article as I was writing it from 0, I still have the raw versions of them in my pc as Word documents but I`ll still loose 2 days to repost them. Well, it`s time to copy paste them from word. Thank you for you help, also google cache didn`t save all the content it saved the format for a few and I`m more than happy because of that, thank you for your help.
 
Never had a single problem with Hostwinds.
 
If you can prove them with Google cache that your content did exist (they told you how this is not the case) rub this on their noses.
 
Found half of the content on google cache, thank God as I only needed to copy paste it back on my site with only a few adjustments made. yet there are another 10 articles that I must rewrite. Gonna have a busy day. Anyway, thanks for telling me about google cache, I didn`t knew about it and it saved me allot of work time. Cheers!
 
Was writing some articles on my site when the host for my site crashed. I contacted their online staff and told them the problem, he restarted the server and guess what. My site was thrown back to the date of 6 of may 2014,,, This is ridiculous. And when I told them they deleted my content they responded: We did nothing of that sort, the content you tell us about never existed... I`m angry like crazy right now, a week worth of work has been deleted just because of their incompetence. And they wouldn`t even recognize their fault!

Also, I`m getting all my traffic from Fb and I would want my viewers to see blank pages on every link they click on, can someone tell me how to hide my fb page until fix the problem?

I am also using hostwinds hosting services, cant say anything bad, customer service is perfect, and have never had any problems with site being offline.
 
I have only had problems with HostWinds VPS. The VPS hosting is extremely slow and doesn't support uploads larger then 50MB or so. Was terrible. Other then that HostWinds has good support and is a pretty good host.

The upload limit of which you speak is a software limit, not a hardware limit.

Mention this to my support, and they will gladly increase this limit in your php configuration for you


In terms of it being slow, will you please send me a PM with your email on file with us. I will run some reports and your node, and if there are any issues with it at all. Then we will gladly refund you for the month, and move you to a newer node, with no downtime at all.
 
Support has been pretty good for me, but I had these issues so far with them:
-Paying with paypal subscription yet my site was suspended because 1 PENNY !! was unpaid. This was there system's fault so don't see why that would even happen. Contacted support, in the end my tciket was closed but the unpaid 1c still there so I had to do it manually.
-When doing a lot of wordpress changes to the code etc my IP got blocked.They used to tell me portscan issues etc but of course thats not accurate. Turns out I accessed the site 11 or 14 times don't remember within a minute. Don't really see that as a ddos limit etc. Had to get my Ip whitelisted for an hour each.

Other than that well not much to report but then again so far just hosting a simple WP site on there and thats the minimum you can expect I'd say.

Contacted support and they told me to open a ticket and they would do a full restore of everything, I don't mind re posting all the articles, however I did some tweaks that took me quite some time and I cannot afford to lose 6 hours of my day reposting all the articles and doing all the tweaks all over again. Hope the restore is done well and doesn't take long as it can affect my google rankings
 
i am with Hostwinds since 4-5 months now, I never faced such problem, if ever i face high resource problem then the Support staff quickly helped me Most of the time...
