I love statcounter, in no small part because it's free.

However - when I view the Summary for a website, the numbers are different to when I view Recent Visitor Activity.
For example, today one of my sites is showing 161 unique visits in the summary, but when I go to the visitor activity page to look at who they were, where they came from etc, I can only see records for 68 visitors today.

    What's up with that?

The reason is that it counts bots and crawlers also.

Visitor paths gives you some details too.

I think its not showing the full amount because you have to pay to see data that's further back

Yeah I briefly considered that, except, ~100 bots and crawlers each day? Doesn't seem likely. Also when I look at the awstats on the hosting account, it shows bots and crawlers and they appear to be around 4-6 per day, with FB bot being the most persistent!
