    Hi there,

I was thinking about this the other day and thought to make a thread about it so someone can give me a more clear understanding of this.

So when you set up your own hosting... Is everything already there for you? Like the Cpanel, etc? or you need to code everything from scratch? Also, lets say you have 500 people under you... and lets say there is some problems at the hosting 'thing' ... what happens then?

... Seems like a lot of trouble to own your own hosting company, no?

No, Cpanel is not there. YOu have to buy a license for it, which is very expensive. If you don't know this much, then you shouldn't attempt this.

Real hosting companies rent out data centers and have physical access to their servers. They have Tech support 24 hours a day and are linux networking gurus.

ryeguy, yeah, there is nooo way I'm starting a hosting company now LOL.
Maybe in 2-4 years from now...

I'm just trying to find the general overview of owning a hosting site.

So how much is for cpanel? And is it paid montly? Monthly per user? Or just a one time fee?

Start as a reseller, if it goes well you can always transfer all you clients to your hosting company.

I also own a hosting company.
We started back in 2002 with a reseller account and now rent dozens of servers in different datacenters.
It was easier to get in the maerket and grow fast back then.
Now the competition is big and it is hard to do it and you need some money to invest.
To start big you will need at least 2-3 servers, with admins to manage them, tech guys to reply to mails and a very good service to keep the client satisfied and to make him renew his accounts year after year.

PS: If you need a good master reseller plan you can contact me:D
