So with the holidays getting ready to wind down, I want to focus my efforts on building an extreme test site for a set of profitable keywords.

I already have several strong sites that I work on in this niche, some domains that are 8 to10 yrs old.
On some of these only WH methods have been used, others I have used a combination of the mainstream BH weaponry,
    like SE NUKE, Scrapebox, Xrummer.

The competition is similarly equipped and skilled. Their domains are also aged, and they employ the same type of tactics, and follow each others trails so hard that if I lay a link usually one or two of them have a link there within days. (Same goes for them... :) )

Basically looking at really tough competition, established with tons of backlinks. Essentially a pissing contest between 5 other sites for the top spots...

Here is the deal, I have been able to get sites into the top 5 for short periods of time, but the very quickly get pushed back to the second page.

It also takes a long time to get them there without them sticking for very long.

    My plan is this,
set up a test site ( or series of test sites) to employ the most extreme methods of jumping a site up through the SERPs to see if I can get into the top three (if only temporarily) for my main keywords.

I want to journal my progress step by step and any questions are welcome and any advice is appreciated.

    First step:
Getting the right type of hosting, bulletproof servers, etc...

So being that I plan on using some extreme tactics to rank these sites, I need to figure out what type of hosting-servers to use,
Figure out if I need to use offshore services, etc.

My content is 100% legal and family friendly so I'm not worried about anything like that, just the methods I'm using getting my hosting shut down...

Anyways, I'm off to research the topic and get some answers...

    Will be back soon...

I'm in the same boat as you. I've got a super low cost content solution, I've got the link solution, and I think I have the architecture solution. We'll see how it goes trying to get up top for short periods of time.

    Consider me subscribed.

    Ok, back again,
Here's what I understand about some hosting options:
DDOS protection: don't think I need, altho I have had sites hacked
safe from DCMA, IRS, etc: don't need that either.
Mainly don't want this project connected in any way with my established network,

I think all I need is to set up on anonymous hosting service.

My overall goal is to temporarily make the various SE think that these keywords are rapidly trending upwards and have them see my site as the primary (maybe even real time) news aggregation site for this niche
(even though there is absolutely no news in this sector)

So I know that at some point I am going to get loads of complaints to whatever host I choose. If it goes down, I really dont care, because I just want to rank it then be able to replicate it again and again.

Just don't want to mess up my other stuff sitting nearby.

Any suggestions? What would you do to keep it separate?

Ok, it have the hosting thing solved,

Being that this is going to be a test site, I am going to use a normal Hostgator account and pay via VCC. That should be enough. Want to see how a normal hosting account reacts to what I throw at it.

So, the next thing I gotta do today is to set up 4 test domains on this hosting account.

Here are the parameters for buying the domains:
new domains (no aged, going to start out cheap)
    has to be .com
6 or less characters in name (no hyphens or numbers)
has to kinda look or sound like a real word (has consonants and vowels)

so example of acceptable: woogar.com or jroolo.com or rewael.com
    not acceptable: krkdrnx.com or oeea123.com

Dont need the keyword in the domain name.
Going to do that with pages.

    Going to use 4 domains,
One as a control, One to test onsite tactics, one to test off site only, and then one to combine the best on site/off site tactics to hopefully slam it thru the serps.

Platform is going to be wordpress, thesis theme,

will come back with the various settings I actually am going to use, plug-ins etc.
(Just don't want to do it from my head, going to go thru the process and take good notes so that others can follow along if they like)

    Anyways, will be back soon.

i think the biggest question is how are you going to get ranked in top 10 that fast? it could take months depending on the keyword

I more looking for a good temporary method, where the site stays ranked maybe a day or two.

One of the biggest problems I have had is that i have used so many methods on the other existing sites, that I have no clue what is working and what is not. I want to test out some methods on an individual basis so that I know for sure (and report it back).

I also have a problem of determining which method is the one that worked best, currently busy setting up different test sites for different methods. The only way to really refine your overall strategy. Will follow this thread. Cheers.

Here is the setup for my first test site:
    Wordpress install

    Thesis theme
    Settings:
    Thesis open hook plugin:
Remove thesis nav menu at top
    Remove default sidebar widgets
Remove author, dates, all other unnecessary internal links altogether.
The sidebar on the right with the following widget: Killer recent entries.
I will set a common category for money pages which will appear in the sidebar.
    Change post slugs to %postname%
Set to show 1 post, everything else is a teaser
with 5 to 10 teasers showing.
    Leaving everything else fairly plain,

    Other plugins:
    Shorten2ping:
Im going to create pingfm accounts for this site so that the sites will brodcast status updates across a variety of sites (twitter, facebook, blogger, tumblir, etc)

SABRE anti spam and Disquss comment system

    Dagon Design site-map generator

    WPtouch;
formats everything for smart phones, ipads, touchscreen devices.

Other then that not going to put too much into design or any fancy bells and whistles on-site. I like to keep it simple in order to know what is working off-site.

Will be back soon with first combined attack plan for my keywords, tools, etc.

Excellent idea... subscribed. I'm doing a similar thing as well, but with a much less competitive keyword. Will be very interested in your results.

Great thread, I will be following to check your progress and best of luck.

Just wondering why you didn't utilize any WP plug-ins such as AllInOne SEO or Platinum SEO, I see a lot of other bloggers swearing by it. Also, what is beneficial about SABRE anti-spam over Akismet?

Why don't you go for long term rankings?

As far as quick rankings, your best bet would be to get a lot of backlinks on sites that are quickly indexed. Hit sites like twitter really hard and any other high traffic sites with lots of community interests.

Thesis has the same options in the theme, and is more tweakable if I need to use it, alltho those plugins are great for "getting it right" out of the box.

I dont want to use an Akismet key, and Sabre changes up captcha types to keep bots from destroying it because it is harder for them to "learn"

    Good questions.

Already got long term stuff setting there already, it has just taken a lot of time and effort to get them there and keep them there. Trying to see if there are any temporary "shortcuts" I can use to beef up my bottom line...
