Alright, I'm planning to start my blog ( more of a news site ) anytime soon. I monetizing it with adsense.
    Here's plan:

    • Get a TLD and use it for blogger ( I would much prefer using wordpress )
    • Use an adequate theme.
    • Post 3 ( > 300 words ) articles per day. One of them will be targeted for a low-volume long-tail keyword and I'll see how that goes.

So, my plan is pretty generic because I'm just getting started. Of course I need to learn more about SEO , I'm currently reading the stickies.

    Questions/Advice:
    • Is it ok if I completely rewrite news articles and use a source at the end of my article?
    • What kind of theme should I get? Do they impact SEO? Should I just buy one from themeforest?
    • If you have any must-reads please send them to me.

The content here and the things I need to know is quite overwhelming to be honest, any help/advice/criticism is highly appreciated.

I would suggest reading all of the journey threads on BHW before starting out.

EDIT: Good that you are already on the the stickies.

If you want to post that amount of content a day and don't have time to write it I highly recommend outsourcing your content. Rewriting content is alright but don't over do it.

    So why don't you?

Rule of thumb: The uglier, the better for your clicks.

    a) Yes

    b) Use a free one for now, just don't use the default WP ones

That must be the reason that anything I design seems to work out.

At this point, I find it too much of an investment on something I have no idea if it will work.

There are a ton of free hosts out there, just google and test to find the one that you like/fits your needs.

Free hosting is usually unreliable, isn't it better to choose a affordable host?
    Bluehost is perfect for beginners.

I've been researching for the past few hours and I think I will be using wp instead of blogger ( I've used blogger in the past and I wasn't satisfied) and I'll be getting a $5 VPS from digitalocean for starters. They seem to also have the option to easily upgrade in case I get a lot of traffic suddenly.
    What do you guys think?

You probably don't need any VPS but if you can afford it you can go for it, but even if you do get a lot of traffic suddenly it won't be something a shared hosting can't handle.

I think WordPress is spot on. I can give you a few alternatives for a hosting if you need, I just took one for $20 per year (with discount of course) from InterServer. I could give you a coupon code which I think I found it here on BHW.
