    Microeconomics 101
a person basic necessities (water, food, shelter, clothing)
just make sure you have the right products to sell.
in a nutshell you will need:
    A) reliable supplier (quality product and fast shippment)
    B) good profit margin (higher the better because there will be additonal costs)
    C) popular platform (to bring traffic and sales)

Barriers to entry are very low. I know the owner of karmaloop and I can tell you that his business took a long time to build. If you're looking to sell clothing - make sure you have a full plan of attack before you start. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I work with many online clothing retailers.

Give us an up-date... Did you ever start your store????

I am starting an online boutique now. An online store will always be profitable no matter how many other stores there is. It's all about marketing, promoting and branding.

Put yourself in a "customer" mindset.

If you shop at Karmaloop, that doesn't mean that you don't and won't shop at Urban outfitters if they got cool clothing, right?. You might buy the jeans from Karma loop and saw a shirt on Urbanouttfitters that will go right with the jeans and purchase your shirt from Urban outfitters. The same goes with your store... don't worry about "COMPETITION".... however, just keep an eye out on other stores to know what's trendy and know what's selling. That's all. Karmaloop is urban clothing, and I love Karmaloop clothing personally... but I still love finding other stores that's similar to karma loop but they got different clothing. And buying from that store does not mean that I forgot about Karma loop. Also, jordan drop a new pair every week... and people buy them every week and is scavenging the web for hot jeans, shorts, joggers, shirts, caps, socks or whatever to rock with them. So... if you didn't go through with your plan on starting your store in 2013... I hope in 2015 you go for it.

In terms of selling a product such as clothing, shoes, cell phone cases, accessories, electronics or etc... competition isn't the biggest issue you just have to focus on branding and marketing it. If that's the case, Target would have shut down when Walmart came around.

I'm trying to figure out a marketing and promotion plan to promote my store.
