I am interested in starting a web hosting company. Hostgator Reseller actually. I know the market is very saturated but thats why I will have a niche to who I am going to offer my web hosting services to and will be building an authority site with this niche.

Does anybody here resell hostgator accounts? How many clients do you have and what prices can you offer? $3-$4 monthly? You guys have any advice and tips for me?

I'm not doing this as my main source of income. I'm thinking of getting around 100 clients at $4 ea that will be $400 extra a month. That's like a car payment :).

Thanks

I currently charge my clients $150/year for hosting and domain costs.
All my clients are people/businesses that I have designed websites for.

Been doing it quite a while. Easy ongoing cash to add to each website i build along with charging them for changes they want made.

Most clients don't bug me much which is good. It started as a test run to see how many questions i would get. If i got too many support related questions I was going to outsource the hosting (less profit but less work)

Thanks for the reply. What kind of shopping cart would I need? I'm planning on using wordpress since that's all I know.

Most reseller packages will come with cpanel or fantastico (deluxe) and will let you install the necessary programs you need to resell hosting. Don't jump in half heartedly, if you're going to sell hosting as a business you'll need an action plan and to provide something better than everyone else. There are many companies that offer $1 hosting so unless you can SEO your site to page one, you'll need to do more than just buy reseller hosting.

wow $1 hosting? Yeah my web hosting company will be targeted. I'm building a blog about a niche and once I get to #1 I will be getting around 5-6k visits a month and extra from Social Media. I will just blog about it and promote it from my niche blog. I'm sure I can get a lot of sales if I charge $3-4 a month.

One Tip:
Make a Business Plan!

If you start this with just some general ideas and thoughts the chances are high that you will fail.

Just make an objective analysis of the situation you are in. How many time it will cost you to manage the whole venture and what it will cost you and earn you.

I say this out of personal experience with setting up a dutch hosting company. The first years I did things without much thought and ended up with a company that earned my money alright but kept me busy for 45+ hours a week. Which I couldnt just outsource, because of the language difference.

I sold that company and now run a dutch hosting company that earns me a nice (3000? a month) income for not that much work (24 hours a week). Because I evaluated my mistakes and started planning.

Just my 2 cents.
