    Hello everybody,

I'm planning on starting a news website very soon. I just have a couple of questions before I do. Hope you can answer them.

    1) Can I get in any legal trouble by starting a real (not fake) news website, for whatever reason?

    2) From which sources should I get my news? Is it legal, to just rewrite news articles from famous outlets like MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, etc?

Lastly, do you have any tips & tricks for me? Smart move to start a news website, or won't it be profitable? My main traffic driver will be social media and forums.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Do you have a team of writers? The main news outlets are publishing hundreds of articles a day.

Your legal risk is somewhat limited, unless you plagiarise someone else's work or you publish a libellous article.

Nope, I don't have a team of writers. I'm planning on writing 1-3 articles a day about major happenings and when I'm earning some $$$, I'll start building up a team of writers. In the beginning, I'll resort to probably some more viral news, since that will get more traction than old school politics news.

I would suggest focusing on a specific niche and write your content around this.

    1) Not really , keep it real and you are cool
    2) From legal confirmed source you can rewrite any news you want .

You better don't start such website. It's hard to keep it up-to-date :)

Thank you for your help. I just find it hard to find a good niche, since I've really been trying for a couple of days now.

Thank you for your help. You're right, it's hard to keep it up-to-date, so I'll have to reconsider it. I'm willing though to put 1-3 hours a day into it, to make sure it gains some traction. Maybe I can write some writers later on the path.

What would you like to write about (i.e. what interests you)? Usually this is your starting point.

    1. Nope, you don't get into legal trouble for that, unless you're ripping someone off.

    2. Yes you can rewrite from major sources. However, link back to the source. Like 'Mr. President said, it was fake news, reported CNN (hyperlink cnn).

    As for tips

    1. Create multiple author profiles, even if you are the only person writing. It's a news site, so should have multiple reporters. Not a blog.
    2. Use on page SEO. Meta tags, alt tags, meta description, proper formatting.
    3. Cite sources. Provide proof to your claims. Especially for scandals if you are in the celeb news niche.
    4. Submit your site to Google News once its complete.

    Hope this helps. ☺

So as others have mentioned, it is not illegal to rewrite news articles although you will find it time consuming. To get a lot of content in quickly to start your site I would suggest getting some kind of text spinning software, add a few hundred articles from the last week. From there see which kind of articles got the most traction (Niche -Politics, Tech, Entertainment, etc) and then focus on that going forward. Not to say you have to 100% stick to that niche but if you are adding 3 hand written articles per day, make 2 of them niche specific.

CNN, Fox, MSN are not stupid, they know which articles will gain the most attention and that's what becomes their headlines. It might be wise to focus on headline news 1 week. The next week go for some more obscure news stories. Just make sure you have good optics setup - Analytics, etc so you can track and measure what is performing well.

    Hope that helps.

Hello guys, I've two questions left:

    1) How should I monetize a news site? AdSense? Or is AdSense paying very little?

    2) Should I use filler content in the beginning? And if I do so, will this have any negative SEO effects?

I would worry about monetizing the site once you are established and get regular traffic.

Thank you for the tip. Do you by any chance have an answer to my second question? Also, do you recommend using AdSense in the future?

Since it is news site, your safest bet would be Google Adsense. You can also try the following

    1. Media.net (This is biggest alternative of adsense, and they are as strict if not more. Jointly owned by Bing and Yahoo)
    2. InfoLinks
    3. Bidvertiser
    4. Amazon Native Ads
    5. Adversal
When you are dealing with Adsense and Media.net be very careful while waiting for approval. No duplicate content, no adult stuff, no illegal stuff. Also try and apply for these first, so that you don't have any ads running around on the site. They might not like it.

As for your second question, if you are using advertisements, try not to use filler content. More than SEO, your ad account (and source of income) would be banned with that.

SEO is a continuous thing. You might not rank with filler content, but you'll be happy to see some content and Google with index it unless you stop them.

Thanks for the information, very useful!

I'm going to give this a try, and start a news website. I'll create a journey thread soon in the 'My Journey' section. Just one last question left before I start. I'm planning on taking GoDaddy's cheap WP hosting, it has a limit of 25.000 visitors a month. This is a bit on the low end, and I'll probably cross this number. So I was wondering, if I surpass the 25.000 visitors/month limit, what happens? Will GoDaddy charge me extra $$$ (if so, how much)? Or will they shut down my site?

a client of mine has over +70 American authors on his news site (all with Masters or phd degree). all I can tell you is don't do it.
as others told you, it's super hard to keep up and from seo point of view, it's not gonna pay off either. people are only searching for the current happenings in the world and you can't outrank news sites such as bbc,..
also after you write something it will become old the next day, do you search for "who ran against obama a couple of years ago" ?
if you are going to put the effort, focus on evergreen niches, and focus on one niche only. eventually, it will pay off.

No, they won't shut down your site, they would just restrict your site. When that happens just change the plan.

As for what iDany mentioned, unfortunately 'news' is not evergreen. If you are focusing on those viral positive stories, that can work. But those are blogs. And the goal is not to surpass other sites. The goal is to make sure that some people among the millions visit your site.

    Waste of time.

If you are serious about this, then you would need to probably start with a VPS and move up to a dedicated server. If you're news site attracts a global audience, then you would most likely need a CDN like AWS, Microsoft Azure or Rackspace.

    Hello TwoOneThreee
I have tried this and was successful but I had to stop because of business reasons..
A niche news site is fine.
    1. create niche autoblog - (yes they still work lol)
    2. Get an autoblogging blugin (there are a few out there even nulled ones)
    3. get a re writer wp plugin.
    4. get alot of social media traffic (with a program like massplanner R.I.P.)
    5. get search engine traffic with SENuke, GSA Ranker.
    6. get a social auto poster (post to your walls, pages and profiles)

FYI. i will be starting my news niche autoblogs again very soon.
    Sports
    Gaming
    Entertainment (Movies, TV)
    Celeb Gossip
    Lifestyle
    Politics
    Style & Fashion
    Humor (Funny Shit)
    World News

    Chose one and take action!!!
Make sure you do 1 niche at a time, then scale u, rinse and repeat...
Hope this helps all of the info in more detail are in the forum search!!!

If you need further help send me a pm we can talk on skype...

Thanks for your advices, I've come up with a sort of spin to this idea. I'm just going to try it out, and see if it works out! I'll create a journey thread soon, I'll explain the spin to it there.

Thanks for the advice, I'm looking for a VPS now for about €10/month. Just one question left, since I'm unfamiliar with VPS's. Is it easy to setup my website (WP) with a VPS? Do I need any coding skills?
