    Hi guys and girls.

Bear with me here, i am still learning.

After reading a lot of threads in the Offline section, i decided to have a go at starting my own offline business together with my fiance who lives abroad. The idea of our business would be simply said creating websites. I know my way around photoshop pretty well and my coding skills are fine. I'm learning about SEO a lot lately.. have dome some simple blackhat stuff in the past (youtube cpa stuff).

Promotion wise i think were gonne be fine, planning on creating some business cards, some flyers. Approaching potential clients via email or cold calling them. Have a lot of calling experience so i have no fear or problems with cold calling at all. Ive checked some websites of local companies and theres a lot of work to be done .

Anyway my question is SEO related, i know how to make my page SEO ready, that's something i can mange myself. Only my question is about backlinks according to some guides here it's very important to get backlinks. But i'm wondering if that doesn't make my company look bad? I mean if i'm commenting my link all over the place doesn't that make my company look like a shady company? Or am i misunderstanding the point of backlinks?

It depends on how your backlinks are done and who is linking to you. If the backlinks are done well and link to high PR sites google sees this as you have quality content or services that people are freely sharing and linking to which in turn move you up in the serp's. If you have too many backlinks or you had too many built too fast it will obviously be seen as spam which would most likely result in sand boxing. The trick is to find that happy medium, build quality backlinks at a steady pace. Good luck!

    Hi,

What you can do is build backlinks slowly for new sites =) Also , you can shield your site with web 2.0 sites and blast those web 2.0 sites with links so that the link juice will flow to your site =) Diversify your links too so that you will get the most out of your links =)
