Starting a forum

I want to start a forum for a selected topic but i dont know how to get users to it, will it be hard to get people to register and take part?

I see forums like this that are jam packed with active users and i think how hard it would be to achieve.

Does anyone have any tips that could help me?

If you have a lot of time you can post several new threads each day with different user accounts. The more the merrier. Don't forget to post some comments in each thread with different accounts so it seems that there are a lot of users active.

Another method would be to hire people to make accounts and post or give away something when a user makes 20 posts. When using the last method there's a big chance it will be useless posts which you might want to avoid. I remember a forum where you got free hosting if you made x comments each month.

Buy some PPC on Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!

Buy an e-mail list from a similar forum.

Spam other forums to join your forum.

And of course, do all necessary SEO work to your forum to eventually bring in members through organic searches.
