Planning to start a forum in a different niche. What kind of hosting do i need for hosting vbulletin. Right now i want to start with shared hosting. Is it ok or hosting will be suspended. When is the right time to move to VPS.

    Please share your ideas.

You can pretty much start with a Shared hosting and then move to a VPS. Everything would really depend on the kind of traffic you get. If you start getting over 5k traffic a day then I would suggest you to move to a VPS instantly so that you can have better speed and performance as Shared hosting will slow your forum down drastically.

Shared hosting is okay. But take a good one, otherwise the forum will be very slow.

If you need a VPS you'll feel it. But up to that it will normally take some more time. You need to take a look for the users who're online at the same time. Only if this amount gets bigger, you'll need more power.

You should just start off with a decently priced VPS. Should cost you $15-$30/mo, which is nothing. Although more expensive than shared hosting, it'll be worth it when you don't have to upgrade from shared to VPS, not to mention if upgrading requires moving of the forum - which can, occasionally, cause errors. Personal experience only.

Yup, just get a vps when your traffic increases, no need to start off with a vps

Start: Shared hosting build up the forum community = $$$ which will then allow you to buy a VPS.

Not sure if you bought separate hosting for your forum or not as this thread is 3 weeks old but I suggest you to choose a hosting service provider with litespeed support. Believe me, Forums load lightning fast on litespeed servers than on apache. I recommend CrocWeb for litespeed hosting.
