    Hey guys!

Did you heard on the news?
Starting 2012 we can register any domain we want, for example: white.blackhat, facebook.bhw, shup.up, stay.tuned, etc.

    Here is the article:

    Code:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jun/20/icann-domains-expansion-annnounced

What do you guys think, is is a good thing or a bad thing for every marketer?

i think google will not give a lot of value to these extansion. Only for the brands, like MTV.

LOL, sure make your domain and waste.money if you can pay.150k for it!

oh and you will need to prove you have the brand, i.e trademarks, an established company etc. Its not for everyone and it won't be forever only till mid 2012 then registrations close. I think ICANN is running short on income lol

another thing, you can't register facebook.bhw because facebook is still a trademark, sure we can get forums.bhw but whats the point? what a waste of money.

don't forget its only for people with deep pockets not for small business or even mid level businesses. These TLDs will kill those brands because people are used to .com xD i won't really be willing to type facebook.facebook on my bloody browser!

Its a bad news for few ppl tho, google will give more juice and weight to these branded sites so top 10 of google for laptops in 2012 will be dominated by laptops.dell, laptops.toshiba, laptops.sony etc good luck SEO guys yet another blow to every day marketer!

I would imagine there will be a few companies that pop up with this offer....

    You apply with us...
    You pay a down payment...
We'll buy the domain for you....
We'll do the paperwork for you...
You'll pay us back just like a mortgage on your home...
After 5 years of BIG payments the site is officially yours....
Fail to pay then we can resell it....

Hmmmm...... wish I had a few million in capitol! LOL!

my two cents :) WORTHLESS ! :) actually for .xxx tld folks fight years to get it working / presale stage still for months ... increasing the number of '' official / semi-official ltds '' is good for everyone similar with the story between .com and .co ( loads of companies / brands sites ... using .co tld just because was more cheaper to get their domains there than trying to get the dot com's ... ) but creating a tld like .you , or anything it's just '' worthless ''

Don't get too excited about this one; You will need a serious amount of $ to get one of those. It won't be the same as registering in 2 minutes, some .com or .info domain.

What i'm most interested is seeing how G and others treat this. It could be used for keyword stuffing so badly, that it becomes a null effect on ranking.

It will be very interesting to see how G reacts to this. Big trademarks like .apple and .microsoft would have to rank high, while .spam needs to get ignored somehow.
