I haven't had the opportunity to post on the forum as much due to health issues that have been affecting my ability to concentrate on writing, although I felt this was important to share with the community.

For those of you who don't know, there's a children's story written by Dr. Seuss called, "The Sneetches". To summarise the plot of this book, some Sneetches have stars on their bellies and some Sneetches have plain bellies. Because of this minute difference, the Star-Belly Sneetches are deemed the best Sneetches on the beaches. Of course, this upsets the plain-belly Sneetches who feel like this is unfair. The plain-belly Sneetches are provided with a way to game the system by having stars artificially placed on their bellies. This then upsets the original Star-Belly Sneetches, who are now upset because they still feel they are superior, but have no way of telling each other apart, resulting in them removing the stars from their bellies. This goes back and forth until the end of the story which is when they learn a very important lesson that unfortunately falls on deaf ears in reality; being star or starless does not actually matter.

I can imagine some of you read this and are now wondering what any of this has to do with Jr. Executive VIPs, and I'll explain that right now.

You see, Jr. Executive VIP was a long dead usergroup, even back when I was voted into in 2015. Nobody cared about it except for the handful of members who were in it and a couple of people who really wanted it for some reason. Now that it's been revitalised, members understandably care about it because of the perceived additional value it now carries. However, this has resulted in a lot of questions from various members and a rather disappointing amount of bickering and snarky remarks on a business forum. Because of this, I've been wanting to properly take the time to answer these questions that have been clearly eating away at some of you.

1. Why Is This Guy A Jr. Exec?
Why not?

But to answer this question more seriously, your opinion on a member does not reflect what you think they may or may not bring to the forum. There are some Jr. Execs I'm personally not a fan of, yet I had no problem with them being upgraded. I don't have to like someone to accept that they may valued by the community here. I would hope that most of you can understand this.

2. Why Isn't This Guy A Jr. Exec?
I believe I may have answered this in the Jr. Exec newbie guide thread, but I'll answer it again here in a bit more detail.

Let's start off by defining who "this guy" may be.
  • Your friend/business partner - I saw this happening quite a bit. Some members were upset about their specific friends not being Jr. Execs. Some of them were using their friend in place of themselves because they thought they should personally be a Jr. Exec, but that's beside the point. Upgrades are not meant to be bias, and the new criteria is in place to prevent that from being a possibility.
  • Former moderators - Whilst their contributions during their time as moderators are valued, some of them just simply don't meet the criteria in the present. Of course, this is not to say they can't ever meet the criteria as some of them might be close to meeting it right now.
  • Your favourite members - You see them a lot on the forum, you like what they have to say, so why aren't they a Jr. Exec? I could say that they just don't meet the criteria (this is usually because of their lengthy infraction history), but there can be more to it than that. For example, there were handful of members here who, for a little while, were quite popular in the community. However, there was a significant amount of evidence that these guys had ulterior motives to abuse the forum members (as they had on other forums), and some of them had even come back with a new "popular" accounts years after abandoning their old account on Black Hat World after being, for lack of a better word, a twat.
3. Why Was So-And-So Selected For Jr. Exec In The First Waves?
The order of the members selected was intentional as, on a forum of highly-opinionated individuals (and this is not meant to be sarcastic or an insult), someone is always going to have a problem with at least one Jr. Exec. The first few waves mostly had no-brainer members selected with one or two of the more controversial members in order to drown out the noise from the vocal minority who were definitely going to have issues.
Just a fun little side note, but I actually pre-wrote some responses at the time because I knew some specific members were going to start a conversation with me about why their most hated member was upgraded. I did not have to change a word in those pre-written messages, to say the least. It's the same way I know which specific members, most likely the ones who ask questions one and two constantly and use the laugh reaction sarcastically, are not going to like this thread.

4. Why is Jr. Exec no longer vote-based?
Whenever a new poll was created for a member, there was an issue where the old opinion-based criteria overlapped significantly with the criteria for Executive VIP. This caused votes to be inconsistent in quality, and ultimately led to the usergroup stagnating. On a forum of over 1.1 million members, 5-10 people (2 of whom were active) should not be the only Jr. Execs.

There were also complaints I heard from many members over the years regarding Jr. Exec & Exec being comprised of friend groups getting each other in. The perception of the old Jr. Exec group was quite negative, so everything I stated previously was considered when we changed it from being vote-based to criteria-based.

5. Why has the quality of Jr. Exec been lowered?
The quality was never exceptionally high to begin with, but there are a few reasons for the perceived quality having been lowered:
  1. Referring to question four, there just wasn't a clear distinction between Jr. Execs and Execs.
  2. Again, referring to question four, on a forum of over 1.1 million members, 5 people (2 of whom were active) should not be the only Jr. Execs as Jr. Exec is not the Mega Society.
6. I will not be a Jr. Exec unless (insert demand/complaint here) changes. Will you do this?
I'm afraid that Jr. Exec is not a hostage you can use to negotiate terms to change a forum-wide usergroup to suit your own personal needs.

7. Why not remove Jr. Exec instead of re-vitalising it?
Jr. Executive VIP has been apart of the forum for many years. Perhaps it is an antiquated usergroup, but it is apart of the community and it is still worth trying to re-vitalise it first.

Aside from that, I don't think anyone wants to see the horror of ex-Jr. Execs/Execs flooding the lounge with "We the people" speeches in an endeavour to rally a BHW army to reinstate their status. I'm kidding, of course (or am I? You'll never know!)

To end this thread, I did want to bring up that there have been a few Jr. Execs who were hesitant to accept the nomination, and as I told them, whether or not they accept it is entirely up to them. It doesn't devalue them as a person to just remain a Jr. VIP as there are many members across every usergroup here who are great. I remember back in 2014, some of my favourite members weren't the Execs or Jr. Execs, but just the senior members who never upgraded to Jr. VIP. The title doesn't make the member, nor will it ever make the member

Hope you are doing well now!
I'm doing better, it's nothing serious.
The original title was "Starblazer snatches Jr. Executive VIP" and then the spellcheck messed it up.
I saw you like the thread, and I was hoping you commented.

I was not disappointed. :D

Thought the difference was msg count.
Since the text between badges and username are not quite observable, can't it be like this?

Thanks for the clarification. Not that I would bring it up publicly, Or even in private pm, but I was curious why certain members received it and others did not. It just kind of happened one day and it piqued my curiosity.

Adding a separate badge for it is possible, although it's something I need to bring up again to the rest of team at a later date.

To reference @prey24's meme post, you may have heard of the Peter Parker principle, "With great power there must also come great responsibility" ().

The behavioural expectations from the community increase with each membership level, or at least it did in my experience.

I chose to take it as a compliment that the members here expected more from me, and I adjusted the way I interacted with the community accordingly.

To expound on the answer to question three, the initial Jr. Execs were chosen because they stood out or because the community members brought them to our attention in a Jr. VIP exclusive suggestion thread.

It was planned for a year or two prior to us re-vamping the usergroup and section, although once everything was sorted out, we were eager to start the Jr. Exec waves.

I know some members have assumed the waves stopped for good, although the number of initial waves were pre-determined whilst we waited to see how they worked out and how the community responded to the new Jr. Execs.

There are future waves planned along with several members we need to finish matching up to the criteria, although there's no ETA for it currently.

I want to explain my situation and how I got Jr Executive VIP and the way I look at most of the things in life, not just about this, so that people would understand a little better and see that everyone has an equal chance and that perhaps you, yes you who read this, you may be the next one on the list or in the near future.

I felt I need to write all this and share it with you, it’s up to you how you want to understand it.

Before anything... Since there will always be a talk about "why did he get it and this one isn't"...

I volunteer to have my Jr Executive VIP taken away from me at any time and give it to the person the community wants or thinks it should get.

I will never ask questions...

I got the Jr Executive VIP without any questions, without any thinking about how to get it, it came out of nowhere.

So, yeah, I didn't know it was coming.

I didn’t expect it and it came as a surprise because I didn’t really think about it.

Is it nice to have it next to your name?

Of course, anyone who says NO is lying!

For me, this is a sign of respect and a way for BHW to show gratitude to certain members for the things they have provided to this community.

I know everyone looks at it differently, I respect everyone’s opinion so I will leave it out there.

If you look at all Jr Executive members, you will see that we all have one thing in common, and that is helping members and giving the right answers (mostly) in a short period of time.

Most Jr Executives have a lot of good and valuable threads from the past and present, threads that help new and old members, threads that are active for a couple of years with a ton of valuable information.

On another side, if you look at me for example, I do not have so many threads, especially with methods of work, tips & tricks, how-to, etc.

  • I'm just active every day
  • I love spending my free time here
  • I love helping people and answering questions
  • I love making people happy in any way
  • I love getting to know new people every day
  • I love sharing positive energy
  • I mean... It doesn't cost anything, right?

I love telling people every day directly and indirectly, that they are worth it and that they are no less valuable than those other, more successful people.

We all have the same chances, but the question is how we look at it, how we understand it, and how we react when given a chance.

Now the most important part...

Most people would look for ways to use that new sign in front of their name,
Jr Executive VIP, it's not a small thing, first of all, it depends on how we look at it but in reality, it's not a small thing receiving one.

I closed my sales thread a month ago (maybe more) and I have no intention of running it, just as I have no intention of using Jr Executive for any purpose, of course, I have nothing against those doing it (in a legit way) but this is just me.

When the day comes to get my Jr Executive away from me, I will greet it and say thank you!

giphy.gif

It was an honor and it was nice while it lasted, but, I’m not emotionally attached, as I see that some other people who didn’t get Jr Executive are emotionally accepting it all.

It's not because they think they deserve it, it's mostly because of the 'possibility of higher sales', more people trust you, and so on.

I will greet every new Jr Executive VIP member.

Whoever gets chosen, it's with a good reason, likewise, whoever is taken away Jr Executive VIP, will be taken away with good reason.

The rules are the same when we are doing well in life and when we are going through some hard times.

I am going through a very difficult period right now, although I might want to cry and scream out loud,
I do not allow my negative energy to be felt by anyone who is in contact with me.

Anyway...
We can have 10 different signs next to our names, if you're not human and you're not honest and you are trying to be a smart ass all the time, people will figure it out sooner or later and you out of the game.

The bigger the name you have in our world, the bigger your responsibilities are.

See how Z and BTB behave, Davids and Heiko, pure professionalism!

Whoever thinks I'm writing this to get in the ass of these people, I have no reason to, and I'm not that kind of a person, so... Yeah.

A sign next to our names doesn’t mean too much if we as humans are idiots and treat other people the way we hate others to treat us.

And I see this happening almost every single day!

Remember:

Being nice to others doesn't cost you anything BUT it does make a DIFFERENCE!

@Zwielicht thank you for everything you do, you do it professionally and no one can blame you for anything.

I hope that the health problem you have will pass and that everything will be fine.

All the best.

Before this latest promoted batch, I noticed that several members went quiet and changed their attitude on the forum after they got promoted. They went quieter and only posted occasionally. Like their posts took on more weight.

I made the conscious decision to continue being who I always was.

Maybe I'm not suitable for the title.

Anyway I love BHW and respect whatever decision you guys make. This place has informed and entertained me for a long time, even before I became a member.

Cheers!
