    Hey guys,

Been managing accounts for about a year now. Most people who read these forums know that there have been waves of 'shadow bans' happening left and right as of late.

I've personally experienced some weird engagement. Was growing several high engagement niche accounts. Engagement is being stagnant, yet following is growing.

Did a shadow ban check with several small hashtags and used a separate web browser with VPN to check out the tags. As expected, I did not come up in some tags, but was still ranking on other decent sized ones.

It's clear that the accounts are not shadowed, yet the accounts themselves are seeing stagnant growth.

Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have insight on these new algorithms?

    MY GUESS:

Instagram is purposefully killing engagement and follow/unfollow/liking to enhance their pay-to-play advertising.

Yeah noticed that my engagement has dropped significantly in the past 2-3 days. More than halved, 1000+ likes to 400, and 5-6K reach down from 10-20K.

Are you in any comment pods? One of the trending factors I have found is that comment pods are actually affecting engagement and starting the flagging process. This is just a trend I notice and not fact.

I think they're brining the same algorithm of facebook pages where you get less engagement and would want you to boost each posts.
    Remember Facebook bought Instagram.

I couldn't agree more. That's what I guess my point was with the whole pay-to-play comment. Seems like the good ol' days of high engagement are over boys and girls.

To me engagement groups are useless now.

I've noticed the highest rate of shadow bans come out of engagement groups now.

What are comment pods? Engagement groups you mean? I am in some groups but I haven't used them in almost a year. I noticed this happened since I unfollow/follow to the max last week.

I had a small business account where I did some manual follow unfollow and everything was going great. Nothing crazy. Got like 1k followers. I had like 30% engagement last week until I promoted a post via Facebook. Engagement peaked and got down to 2-3%. A couple of days later I got shadowbanned. Made a new account now but still somewhat softbanned. My posts show in the new hashtags but as soon as i get to top 9 they disappear.

This made me find out about BHW.

Yeah, I mean engagement groups. It appears that they do have an influence on being targeted by some sort of Instagram filters.

1k followers is pretty small to be making that kind of a call. How many likes per photo? I'd double check the small hashtags you're in.

PS How did your promo post do as far as engagement?

I've been noticing this a lot lately too. Specifically in regards to engagement groups, it seems pretty easy to trigger some that limits engagement. Either that or I am attributing Instagram throttling engagement incorrectly to something I am doing....

Regardless, compared to the end of 2016, I am seeing far worse results despite being up 5k more followers.

The paid promotion got really great results and like 40% engagement. After that I stopped showing in most recent hashtags when I check with different account.

I can't find any other reason besides follow/unfollow, hashtags or comment pods. Though, I'm not using comment pods on some of the accounts that are having issues.

Damn, 40%? You should try checking via browser that hasn't been associated with an account. I use a VPN too to check.

I still have 5%-10% engagement per post but I was actually getting more total engagements before. There is always the variable of content but it seems much harder to get the same results as before, even with best practices.
