Hello friends :) My day was going pretty damn good and I was going going to a event at a local restaurant walking, because the weather was finally okay for the fucking day in months. As I was walking, I got surprised by some stupid sprinklers or whatever they are called that started spraying the shit out of me, I mean for real????
I am wondering who manages those in cities of America, is it the land owner or the city itself? It was a business center area. I would like to forward a complain but I have no idea whom to forward this to. Unbelievable

Check it out the state of the art sprinkler technology

What were you thinking by the time you walk through it. Any scene from final destination maybe? Because the law of attraction says what you believe is what you receive.

Just be happy it wasn't a person.
No body you contact will care or do anything. Move on.

I haven't had a shower in weeks, its going to be hot tomorrow so I'll bring soap. What time did this happen so I can prep.

I understand mate. Did it stop after you crossed? If yes, then I guess someone is doing it intentionally. Maybe it's controlled by a raspberry to keep the strangers off.

Spring summer and fall I cut grass as a business. On all the yards I maintain I always wire in motion detectors to turn on the sprinklers when an unsuspecting pedestrian walks by.

Now on the more serious side, many, if not most, cities mandate that the property owner maintain the parking strip. One way of doing this is to install sprinklers in the median. Another way is to over spray the walk. Either way, if you are in the area at the wrong time you will get wet. You often hear that you should only water at night. That is not true. If grass sits wet to long a grass killing fungus can grow. In some yards I maintain, I must water during the day else the sun will burn, and possibly kill, the grass. Many business water during the day because often the water pressure is higher than it is at night and greater water pressure means greater coverage. I have a few apartment complexes too. In multi tenant properties it is often impossible to please all the tenants. If you water early in the morning, the tenants complain that they cannot sleep, during the day their children can't play, at night they cannot play, party, or sleep. So you set the sprinklers so that you inconvenience the fewest people. If someone gets wet - oh well.

I am sure that the property owner did not target you and that you simply picked an inopportune time to walk through the area. Deal with it.

Interesting. Is it hard to install a motion detector to prevent the sprinkler turning on when somebody is passing by?

All of the systems I have dealt with are zoned. To use a motion detector on a zoned system is impractical. Rain sensors can be installed so as not to turn on the sprinklers if is is raining but that works on the entire system at the timer. To set an electronic system up to turn a sprinkler off when a pedestrian is near would require electronics at each sprinkler head. While it can be done, if the system is set up with a water bypass on the head, it would add $$1000's to the system. Meaning it is not practical or cost effective.
