Introduction: Good day everybody, this will be one of my first posts here however I have been a long time lurker for a while now. I am currently 18, living in the UK and hoping to go to university later this year. I have set up many websites in the past and currently own about 20 functioning websites in their baby stages, what I tend to do is get a really good idea, act on it however I tend to get bored with it after about a week and find it hard to continue working therefore, for this project I want to try documenting it which should keep me focused. Enough about the who and why, lets get onto the what. My project will be to set up a sports blog relating to my local football (UK) team, something I am very passionate about. I started this project in May earlier this year however with the close of the season it kind of died. Competition: Although I don?t really see them as direct competitors because I will not be trying to rank my site, they offer an indication of what can be achieved if this goes well. There are three main competitors with between 10,000 and 30,000 active passionate followers on twitter and Facebook groups ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 fans. What I am trying to say is if this works, I can expect a good loyal following that should be easy to monetise and these competitors prove it can be done. Content Strategy: My content strategy will be very simple, I will try and post one unique article a day, this article is aimed to get a readers reaction and hope they post a comment, this means content should be interesting using elements such as videos, infographics and polls rather than trying to target keywords. I will also write match previews and reviews that could possibly be turned into animated videos in the future to give me a Youtube presence. In terms of social media I will post the daily article two or three times in a day (depending on how early I publish it). I will also try to post three other main pieces of content (like graphics etc) and repost news and rumours. Monetisation Strategy: Adesnse: This is how i?ve made a little money with my other sites therefore I know I can use it and its quite reliable. Amazon: Although there are not a lot of products related to my team there are a few, DvDs, Scarfs, Flags etc so it is an option. Merchandise: I am a very good graphic designer already (not to be big headed, its just one of my main passions in life therefore I became quite good at it!), therefore I can create designs that related to my team, I will have to be careful though as to not infringe trademarks therefore the designs will be based on the city and phrases relating to the team. TeeSpring: If I gain a large enough following then this may become a very viable and profitable income stream, not to start out with though. What have I Already Done: After the sites death in May earlier this year I have since found a better theme therefore I installed that and set it up, I already have social media accounts set up and I have created a new logo that is styled a bit like the team badge however with a more retro look to it (Lots of strokes!), this should give the website warmer feeling compared to my old corporate style logo. I have registered the domain name, both .com and .co.uk with the former redirecting to the latter. Success Criteria: I know this is a money making forum however making money will be a secondary goal to start with, my primary goal will be to grow my social media presence and views to the website therefore later posts will be based on this information rather than income. My targets will be to grow my social media presence primarily on Twitter with Facebook backing it up. These are my initial targets: Reach 1000 Followers on Twitter Reach 500 Fans on Facebook 5000 weekly page views Post formats: I will try to update this thread daily with my progress, each update will be structures like this: Yesterdays Achievements Yesterdays Page Views Twitter Followers Facebook Likes Todays To Do Got any questions or tips, please feel free to share. Sorry if I rambled on a bit here, update posts will be shorter hopefully! 6 August 2014 Twitter Followers: 0 Facebook Likes: 0 To Do: Today I want to create an introductory article that I can ask people to share around, with the aim of getting them first followers, it will act like a press release. I also want to write my first proper article, this means there would be two posts today.
