Can someone explain the difference between SPAM and Targeting Email Addresses?

From my understanding, SPAM is caused when someone just randomly sends out thousands of emails...

If I sent out 1,000 emails to "TARGETED" individuals within a specific industry, would that still be considered SPAM?

Kinda confused on the illegal aspect. Basically, I want to send the same email to 1,000 people BCC'd. How should I go about doing this? Thanks!

BTW, I use HostGator so here's a Policy directly from their site hostgator[DOT]com/mailpolicy.shtml

If you haven't received their consent to mail them, it is considered spam.

Alright. Kinda makes you wonder why people even provide their email address!

Sorry but the information above is incorrect. On a mobile phone so I'll explain later as it's a difficult subject.

BTW, the email that I am sending out is not related to a product or service, so I am NOT looking for money from any of them. It's a proposal for my referral program. Not sure if that matters?

Google CANSPAM. Fact is, there is a distinction between a "commercial" email in which you are promoting or stand to have financial gain, and a "relationship" email which is non-commercial. Each have their own guidelines. Check them out and if you meet the non-commercial type then there are less restrictions.

All unwanted emails are considered as SPAM. Take it that way. Hostgater will zap your account as they are very strict with their mailing policies. If you really want to send these type of emails hit me up on skype or pm me.
