I think I may be being targeted by a competitor. I keep seeing a ton of spammy comments on shitty spammed to death blogs with exact match anchors. Wtf are my options here? Just keep disavowing them? I haven't really seen any rank changes so far.

Are they being dripped over time or just the odd spikes off links?

Kind of seem like they are being dripped over time to me. But I would never have purchased a service like this. 20-30 a day.

Hmm I would disavow to be honest. NEG-SEO is normally done by rookies who do hits, its clear what they're doing and I do find Google see's through it.

Are you going by when they'e tracked or when they're posted live?

Are they using your anchor text?

Ok looking through all of the links now. Yes they are using my exact keywords as anchors. Lots of shitty spun articles on Chinese sites and foreign blog comments. thanks for taking the time to respond.

Are the post dates of the comments different, within a day or two though?

Oh I see what you're saying. They look to be on the same day on the blogs. The dates in the webmaster tools was what I was looking at.

Should be ok then. How clean is your link profile with your own stuff?

I'd defo disavow as you find them if you're pretty clean with your link building as it shows it's not you and you're trying to be clean blah blah

Never wait for the issue and then react, clean up

I've had the same problem, 46,000+ spam comments, I only know that I never managed to stop them even though I searched for months the answers to my questions.
I would do everything to try to stop them yet somehow they always passed all that, more than 70 percent of the comments was in Chinese.

Edit: I know my answer does not help anyone, I had this problem a few years ago, now I do believe that there is a solution.

Perhaps try with the captcha code?

    Yes Dead Joe.
I'm trying to remember everything, in that time I've worked with a lot of websites.

That site was very old, one of the first I've ever made, full of everything, affiliate links in all directions, bringing an average of between $100/200 through clickbank, so honestly I did not gave too much attention to that site.
Basically when I saw this problem with the comments I know that I searched for months trying to find the answer, I installed all possible plug-ins and nothing was able to stop all of it.

Captcha code may be the answer, I'm not sure honestly.

    About Google/Rankings...
In the near future everything stopped for about a year.
Earnings were still there, but turned into a couple of dollars here and there.
Whether it was unrelated to the spummy comments and Google, I really do not know because I say again, the site was old , the years passed, I turned to some new things.

I have in the past experienced such a thing. I remember I was running a WordPress blog and from time to time, I will receive the comments which actually do not make sense at all. You can be able to look for some ways in which you can moderate the comments. You can have the comments being manually approved once posted so that you go through and delete the ones you feel are spam.

Disavow them if you are not happy with what you are getting.

Like someone else said, I would wait it out until it looks like its affecting rankings. It should be pretty clear to G that its neg seo. The anchors, foreign sites and timing should be a red flag

Differentiating between Negative SEO and Deliberate spam detection has always been a tough one for Google. If you get a notice from Google, you'll have to reply with care. You need to see what kind of notice you got firstly. If the links point to a page you can chnge ..404 it. That will kill the juice and devalue the links asap.
