Like many of you I have a bunch of domains that I pretty much do nothing with... kind of orphan sites actually.

I got this email yesterday from Godaddy:

    Dear BTB,

It is time once again to begin our harassment campaign to get you to renew your domain bananapeels.com as it is set to expire 4 months from now. Of course as we send out emails to get you to renew that domain over the next 4 months, we will be upselling you worse than a door to door Fuller Brush salesman with halitosis.

Please log into your Godaddy account and renew the domain so we can attempt to upsell you there as well.

Thank you and have a great Godaddy day!

I have not done anything with this domain since I first set it up... there are about 40 or so articles on it and it was backlinked but never monetized because I didn't see any rankings for the first 6 weeks or so and figured I had a dog for a site.

This was a site fashioned after John XFactor but a tad larger as I could never pt up a 6 page MFA site.

Since the kind folks @Godaddy reminded me that I have this domain I figured I would check it for rankings before ignoring the next 63 emails from them.

Lo and behold it is sitting at #2 for the main KW out of 1.12 million results.

Who knows how long it has been sitting there... what a waste of rankings.

I monetized it yesterday and it generated 31.45 for me from CJ.

What do you think I had my assistant do with all my sites today?

That's right, take my excel sheet of sites with KWs and see where they were ranked and make sure they were monetized.

Moral of the story is to check your sites' rankings, monetize them even if they do not initially rank and remember that just because you are not ranking today from the work you are doing, you very well may rank months from now for that work.

I have a lot going on and really need an assistant... plus it is my step-daughter and she could use the work so it is a good fit as she is pretty computer savvy and really looks out for my best interests.

I use a variety of backlinking processes... keep the backlinks randomly hitting my sites... I'm a huge fan of BB's http://vilambara.com for one.

I also use Amazon, Adsense, Clickbank and CPA offers for revenue on my personal sites.

Spread out the revenue streams is something I strongly believe in.

It goes to show that whatever work you do in terms of backlinks, doesn't always show up straight away.

This is why I put all my new domains into a SERP tracker right after putting content on them :)

Had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago.
Forgot about a site for a couple months, checked it and it was at #4 & #6 for the main KW's.
Threw up Adsense quick, made about 30 bucks so far this month.

No need for an assistant here lol, but I did go through every domain I own.

what soft do you guys actually use to track your rankings? just asking since I saw a lot of different results when using traffic travis, rank tracker and just checking manually(no personalized settings, not logged in). I chose the same google site for all of the tests and the results where different for all of them so I am wondering what is the most reliable way to check them, besides webmaster tools which I do not want to use for all sites.

Only one I trust completely is SESCOUT.
It's real-time rank tracking, and great if you have clients.

For my site's I use mainly rank tracker plugin for Firefox, but it's random as hell.
Seems like for the most part it's anywhere from 2-5 positions off.

Noted! What I do do religious is check traffic stats for all my sites - often a dozen times per day, but I rarely check the sites I'm not working on for SERPs.

Gonna have to set something like that up.

SEscout is consistent at being inconsistent.

Very inaccurate results, canceled my sub sometime back.

    Try Advance Web Ranking instead.

They are fine. I check sometimes if the rankings are true, and they end up being correct, and if they aren't its when the rankings are bad at like #154 or whatever, and to me I don't care if they get it 1 or 2 off its it not the top 10.
